Liive Like foyers, purham Sun. Married people should treat each other like lovers all their lives theu they would be happy. Bicker iiig and quarrelling would soon break off love affairs; consequent ly lovers indulge in such only to a very limited extent. But some people men and women both when they are ouce married, think that they can do just as they please, and it will make 110 differ ence. They make a great mistake It will make all the difference in the world. Women should grow more devoted and men fonder al ter marriage, if they have the slightest idea of being happy as wives and husbands. It is losing sight of this fundamental truth Tvhich leads to hundreds of di vorces. Yet many a man will scold his wife who would never think of breathing a harsh word tohis sweetheart j and many a wife will look glum and morose on her husband's return wuo had only smiles and words of cheer for him wheu he was her suitor. How can such people expect to be hap- py- The Figure on Clocks. Have you ever noticed that on the dial of .all clocks aud watches where Roman numerals are used, the figure four is written 1III in stead of IV? The explanation of tnis carries us back to the year 1370, when the first on record which approached in accuracy of movement the clock of the present day, was constructed by Henry Vice, for Charles V of France. This monarch was surnamed The "Wise, and although he had a good degree of practical knowledge, he was not versed in the sciences. Like many other people he hated to acknowledge his ignorance, and often assumed to know what he did not. So when the watch was brought to him he thought it would be a sign of wisdom to find .some fault with it, and declared that the IV should be four 1's. "You are wrong, your majesty," said Vick. "Take it away and correct the figure and put IIII." And it was done. For my Sake, Baltlmorean. These three little words are the touchstone of love. The applica tion of this touchstone begins with infancy and ends only with the end of life'. If that baby in its mother's arms could speak intel lectually it would say : "It is for my sake that a mother's eye watches unsleeping through mid night hours, and her arms hold me until they are ready to drop off for wearihess." "For my sake" many a successful man acknowledges gratefully that his parents toiled and economized in order to buy VkirrVa an1 nan rt-v1!-xr Kill tfc- wysuLU uuu I'1 J wucgc UIIIO. L? Ill my sake" provides the sheltering roof and the arm-chair for dear old grandma and the fireside.
