Of late the other occupants of the house had noticed that Mr. Whar ton seemed to be melancholy. President Crespo, of Venezuela, has taken a another step towards the conspicuous honoring of Amer ican citizens by issuing a decree directing the erection of a bronae column in honor of the citizens of the United Statos who aided Ven eznela in the fiivt struggle for inde pendence. Tha decree has just been received at the Venezuelan lsgation. Venezuela has hon ored this government heretofore, by erecting a statue of Washington, and projecting another statue to President Monroe, commemorative of the Monroe doctrine, so that the eroction of thib bronze column is a further evidence of the frien lly feeling existing. Sheriff O. Gwynn, of Pike county, Ga., was killed and John F. Madden, a prominent citizen fatally wounded at Concord, a little mountain town in that county, by the notorious Dek gang of out laws. Sbenfl Gwynn was shot down on the porch of the outlaw's home while the house was surrounded by a posse. The desperadoes tLen rushed from the building and shoot ing rapidly in every direction, broke through the posse and made their escape in the darkiesB. Two pot&es . of several hundred men are in pur suit of them. Taylor Delk, the leader, is surrounded in a wanip. He is shooting rapidly but lm am munition is giving out and he will be captured. C, say that Judge Simonton, of tho United Stages Ciicuit Court, had decided, in tho (Jape Fear & Yad kin Valley Kailroad foreclosure caso, in favor of tho ISaltimoie re organization committee. This means that property will be sold as a whole and not in divisions or sec tions as was desired by the New York re-organizHtion eointni!t which represented largo holdings of tho "A bonds. The Baltimore committee, with Messrs. John K. Cowen and J. D. Cross as counsel, represented bonus of all classes but more particularly the "B" and "C" holdings. The case was argued at Asheville, March 10th. Both tho Southern Railway Company and the Seaboard Air Line system are competitors for control of the Capo Fear & Yadkin Valley property. Tho proposition of the Southern Iiailway Company was regarded with favor by the New York com mittee but was opposed by tho lo cal committee. The Seaboard made its oiler through the Balti more committee and it is presumed that it will bo acceptod, as" it id known that it is regarded favorably by tho committee. Wilmington, April 2. -In the suit for the forec'osnre of ilie Cape Fear & Yadkin alley Kailroad in the United States Court to-day, the court decides that tho road shoulJ be preserved in it entirety and should bo sold as such unites it ap pears impracticable to make such sa!o after certain preliminary ques tions are considered and pati-cd on by the court, the main questions being the value of tho divisions and branches and tho distribution of the proceeds ot sale among the different clashes of bon Is. Newt from Westfield, Mrs. J. M Simmons, who has been in feeble health tor several months, has gone to Pilot Moun tain, to visit her son hoping a change would be'ielit her. Miss Migie Smith is Uiting relatives at Pilot Mountain. Died, on Saturday, the 1th inst., at his home, near Bliss, Mr. Press Simmons, of consumption. C April oth, lSf'C. A Touchinc Death Scer-e. Haw River was the scene of a most touching death yestei day even ing, a"id people there witnessed u scene that they seldom behold. Miss Mollie McClnre, aged K. years, was sick unto death with pneumonia, realizing that she wa living, she began telling friends and loved ones good bye. Perfectly couscious ot all that was going or", she kissed kindred aod fri jnds goort by with us much composure as one going on a journey. But the most touching scene was the pa -ting with her young lover, whom the kissed giod bye, and prayed to God that lie might be a Christian end meet her in heaven. Then as nht let go her life went out, and smiling, she crossed to the otbe side. A friend there tells us that it was the most touching scene he ever witnessed, iu fact he never befoie witnessed such a death. Miss Mollie was a favorite, the daughter ot Mrs. Madison McClurc.
