Trial (xai' 10 ',. A Gentle Admonition, '(loiiftss your faults one to an- other." James 5.10. It is related of t. John, the Kvangelist, that he wua nnc.r set upon by a company of thieves, amoiignt whom was a young man, their captain. To him t5t. John ap plied himself, liv way of wholesome I counsel and advice, winch 'ook so good effect that ho was converted, and went to all his fellow thieves ai d besuuglit tiiem; in the name ol Jesus Christ, to walk no longer in their wicked ways. He told them iIihI he was troubled in conscience for bis former wicked lile snd earn estly entreated them, as they tender ed the welfare of their own soulk, to leivo oil their old courses. The counsel w;is good und well taken, so that iiiMiy of them became con verts. Thus one sinner's confession of his fniilts to another, may happily prove the conversion ol one by the other. Put we, all of us, are prone to want to keep our sins secret from one another. Wo should pray to our Heavenly Father to help tis "confers our faults one to another," and ark him fo pardon us. Ilctico that precept, "Con toss your faults one to another," is interpreted by some thus: "That those who have been partners together in sin, should go mid scti..uly enfess their sins each to the other.'' lie that hath been a diunkard. or otherwise wicked, let him go to his companions in iniquity i.nd tell tiieiu that he is troubled in mind because of his former excess, und he in iv be a means o! coiivertiiithein.
