The Christmas holidays in the coaoty schools of of McDowell will begin on Friday, December 22, three days before Christmas. T. J. Grubbs has resigned his position as superintendent bridge work in this county and is succeed ed by Frank Moody of this county The graded school will suspend next Monday for the Christmas and resume work again on Janu ary 2, giving two weeks vacation. F. J. Chapman returned last week from Hot Springs, Ark. where he has been taking treat ment for rheumatism. His friends will be glad to learn the treatment was beneficial. The Round Dozen club was entertained Wednesday afternoon, Dcicember 6, at the home of Mrs. Lester Morris. Th« guest of hon or WM Mrs. Joe Edwards. After various games were played the hostess served refreshments. Deputy Collectors Bager and Chance, accompanied by Deputy Sheriff Curtis and G. W. Duncan made another raid in the Glades section and brought a 110-gallon still to town Tuesday, which they captured near the negro camp meeting grounds. The distillery was not in operation and no arrests were made. Th3 Merchants & Farmers Bank will this week mail out the Christ mas club checks to 160 people who have had the saying habit this year. The amount of money saved by these people during the year will amount to $3,750. Most of this money will be spent with the mer chants of the town within the next two weeks. The 1917 club will open on December 18. This is a very popular method of saving money and it is likely that the 1917 club will be more than double this year’s membership. Both en gines were badly wrecked and Fireman Blackwell of the shifting crew was severely scalded. Con ductor W. W. Dysart lost his left foot in the accident. Just who is responsible for the wreck has not yet been determined. Cotton Mill For Glenwood. Ten thousand dollars has already been subscribed for a cotton mill at Glenwood, this county. A meeting will be held at Glenwood j on December 21, at l':30 o’clock, to see how much stock can be raised. The citizens of Glenwood and vicinity are urged to attend the meeting and take stock in the new enterprise which will mean much to the people of that section aod county.
