Social News Miss Helen Reeves, Editor Office Phone 64 Residence 59-X € Marion Junior Woman's Club Elects Officers For Year The Junior Woman's Club held a business meeting in the Club Room in the Community building Tues day evening with Mrs. S. R. Perkins, president, presiding. The following officers were un animously elected: Mrs. P. T. Hollis, president, Mrs. Landis Laughridge, vice president, and Mrs. Ray Cline, secretary and treasurer. Reports of the committees fol lowed with Mrs. E. W. Parker, Jr. reporting that the Junior Woman's Club basketball team would play the Marion High School Girls on Saturday, March 5, at 7:15 p. m. Mrs. Willard Haithcock reported that the Club had collected $877.12 from employees during the Polio Campaign and that $221.71 was col lected by the Club on the dime board. Mrs. Edna Earle Stancill, chair man of the ways and means com mittee, reported that the Club's cook books, "Cooking Around The World" had arrived and were for sale. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. James McCall, Mrs. Joseph Stanley and Mrs. Edna Earle Stan cill. It was announced that the next meeting would be a dinner meeting. o Study Club Meets At Gibson Home The Study Club met Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Carl Gibson. Miss Elsie House, vice president, presided. Members answered the roll call by giving current events. Mrs. John B. Hoyle, Jr., Mrs. An nie Miller Pless, and Miss Carolyn Johnston were in charge of the pro gram. Membership in \ this society requires a high scholastic rating in foreign languages. 1 Presbyterian Women Elect New Officers Women of the First Presbyterian Church held a meeting Monday af iternoon. The meeting was opened I by prayer and the secretary read the minutes of the last meeting. A report of the activities was given by the chairman of each circle. The reports given concerning the nursery held during church hours was most favorable. Mis. J. L. Gourley, president, an nounced that the women of the church would observe World Day of Prayer on Friday. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs. Paul Story. D. invit ed the women of the church to hear Dr. L. Nelson Bell who will speak to the men of the church on Wednes day, March 9, at 7:00 p; m. o Mrs. McCall Entertains With Bridge-Luncheon Mrs. Harry McCall entertained members of her bridge club on Wed nesday with a two course luncheon. The rooms were beautifully decor ated with spring flowers. Mrs. E. P. Dameron won high score prize and Mrs. Frank Gold smith won second. Members playing were Mrs. Dam eron, Mrs. Goldsmith, Mrs. Eugene Cross, Jr., Mrs. S. R. Cross, Mrs. Walker Blanton, Mrs. Neal Morris, Mrs. Sam Yancey, and Mrs. Paul Story. Mrs. E. W." Parker, Jr. assisted Mrs. McCall in serving. o Bridge Tournament Held Friday Evening A bridge tournament sponsored by the Parent Teachers Association of the Marion City Schols was held Friday evening in the Community building. Proceeds from the tournament to taled $81.50. This amount will be applied to the purchase of a new piano for the school. The door prize was won by Mrs. Wayne Suttle. Mrs. Neal Morris won high score, Wayne Adkins se cond and Mays Flack third score prize. Mrs. J. Q. Gilkey won the miscellaneous prize. o Janis Cline Honored With Birthday Party Mrs. Ray Cline entertained with a birthday party at her home on New Street, Saturday afternoon, February 26, honoring her daught er, Janis Annette, on her first birth day. The birthday cake and ice cream course carried out a pink and white color scheme. Guests were Mary Jo Whiteside, Lois Neal Miller, Robert McCall, Jr. and Thomas Ditt. o WMU To Observe Week Of Prayer The Womens Missionary Union of the First Baptist Church is observ ing the Week of Prayer with a se ries of meetings at the church. The subject of the meetings is home missions and the Annie Armstrong offering for home missions. The first meeting was held Tues day night and there will be another* meeting tonight following the meet ing of the Union executive commit tee. The last meeting of the series will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p. m. o Engagement Announced Mr. and Mrs. Earl Eller of Old Fort announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Helen Pearl Eller, to Cecil Elmer Allison, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Allison of Old Fort. The wedding will take place in March. Mr. and Mrs. G. H.
