Between the Generator where it is created and your finger putting it to use, it goes through many steps. ><31688011 Ninel^xo TRANSMISSION OF POWER "STEP UP, REDDY" First, it must be "stepped up" because it is transmitted at much higher voltage (pres sure) than that at which it is ^ generated. This is done just sv outside the generator- at a Transformer station; "THIS WAY, PLEASE" Over High Tension Wires ttlis "stepped up" current reaches the town or other center of distribution, where it is to be Used. "STEP DOWN HERE" Received at the Iccal Substation, the current is "stepped down." In smaller amounts it is sent through a network of circuits into your com munity. "NOW REDDY... GO TO WORK" Finally, on a pole near your house, barn, or factory where you will put it to work, electricity is reduced to 1 10-220, the voltage your wiring usually calls for. LOOK AHEAD! During 45 years, the Duke Power Company has shared in the tremen dous growth of the Piedmont Carolines. In the period, 1935-1948, while the numbsr of users of electricity increased 59 per cent for the na tion, customers of the Duke Poyrer company increased 158 per cent. To keep ahead of such growth requires a constantly expanding generat ing and transmission system. Today, with confidence in the people and the progress of the Piedmont, we are again planning and building ahead. ^ DUKF- powfr rnMPANY
