Ross, who has been a patient at Duke Hospital, thanked members j for gifts mailed him recently. A ! letter from Glenwood school was also read as an expression of ap i preciation for funds contributed ■ toward the purchase of a type : writer. i Wayne Adkins, member of the project committee, announced that a carnival had been signed to ap pear here next April under spon i sorship of the Francis Marion club. A donation of $135 was appro priated to the fund which provid es lunches for underprivileged ' school children, a project of the Marion Parent-Teacher associa tion. A motion was passed to sponsor a dance at the Marion Lake club December 30. ! Members also voted to aid ten needy families during the Christ imas season with gifts of fruit, clo i thing and other items. j Harvey Parker was welcomed in j to membership. I Mrs. McMurray Will Be Soloist For "The Messiah" ! i Mrs. Car] McMurray, soprano soloist of Marion, will be one of the soloists at the second presenta tion of the oratorio, "The Messiah" to be held in Asheville next Sun day, December 18 at the City Aud itorium at 3:00 p. m., which is be ing sponsored by the Asheville Mu sic Club for the benefit of the Mu sic in Hospitals Fund for wounded and iiospitalized veterans. Other participants from Marion are Mary Lou Beaman and Laura Jean Keet er in the chorus, and Bobbie Ricks in the orchestra, playing first French horn. ATTENDS MEETING j Mrs. Mary G. At Christmas A donation of $25 was given through the McDowell County Chapter American Red Cross for the purchase of poinsettes to de corate wards of Moore General Hospital, Mrs. Ann Hawkins, exe cutive secretary, announced this week.
