PAGE THE PINEHURST OUTLOOK plete and the task of the caterer easy. An abundance of fresh poultry, game, meats, eggs, milk, butter, cream, veg etables, fruits, etc., may be obtained at all times. Cut firewood is delivered on short notice and garbage collected regularly. Trained native servants are not readily obtainable, but are easily procured to act satisfactorialy in under capacities. The cottages are rented only by the season. Several are devoted to apart ments of two and three rooms. Positive decisions are required from tenants in August of each year. COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS A feature of Pinehurst which adds much to its dignity and character, are its comprehensive Schools, embracing a ponds of interest, but there are also several points of historic interest, and cotton gins, turpentine stills, tar kilns and lumber mills, as well. The glympse at the every day life of the natives of the country-side, many of whom live in primitive log cabins of a single room, cooking before a great open fireplace, and using the hand loom, is one of strange and fascinating human interest. The Deer Park is situated in the Pine Grove on the way to the Golf Club House, and it contains many sleek and beautiful animals and several proud pea cocks. This together with cages of Bel gian hares, pheasants, squirrels,- owls and other animals, located near by, never fails to delight the little ones. THE LIVERY AND ELECTRIC RAILROAD The Livery is fully equipped to meet GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION GENERAL INFORMATION. Pinehurst is located in Moore County, North Carolina, near the southern boundry of the State, and about midway between the Eastern and Western limits. It is seventy miles southwest of Raleigh, and two hundred and fifty miles from Norfolk; practically on the direct line of the two great Railways, the Seaboard Air Line and Southern. It has an elevation of 650 feet above the sea level and is in the centre of the Thermal or long leaf pine sand hill region, long noted for its healthfulness. It was founded in 1895 by the late James V. Tufts of Boston, Mass., and has since its inception, been entire y under one ownership and control, now being the property of Mr. Leonard Tufts of Boston, son of the founder. Neither houses or land are for sale and the sale of intoxicating beverages is not The Photographic Studio near at handi is a model of artistic taste. A specialty is made of developing and printing for amateurs and the provision of supplies ; a most necessary feature for the Village as the country-side round about, is rich in subjects for the camera. A line of souvenirs, is also carried. POWER HOUSE AND STEAM LAUNDRV. Situated a bit apart from the centre of the Village is a Central Station or com plete Power riant, which furnishes heat, light and water for the entire Village, and power for the Electric Railroad, Ice Making Plant, Cold Storage Refrigera tors, elevators, etc. In the manufacture of artificial ice only pure Pinehurst Water is used and great attention is given to cleanliness. Preparatory School for young men and boys, Upper and Lower Schools for boys and girls, a Kindergarten for the little ones, and Private Tuition for those who wish it, including young women. The Preparatory School offers excep tional advantages for young men and boys whose parents find it necessary or desirable to have them spend the win ter in a climate which offers opportuni ties for the enjoyment of out-door sports and pleasures, and surrounded by right conditions for living. The Schools are all gathered together in a handsome new building, modern in every particular, located a bit apart from the centre of the Village. INTERESTING ENVIRONS DEER PARK Pinehurst is surrounded by interesting environs and the walks, rides, and drives of the vicinity, are most enjoyable. Not only are the numerous groves of pines, the quaint old mills and picturesque mill many and varying demands. There are excellent saddle horses in plenty, for the large number who find the rides of the vicinity to their liking; two and four seaters and stylish'spans, for those who drive ; hunting wagons and traps, for the sportsmen, and natty runabouts, with a seat "built for two," for the younger set. THE VILLAGE HALL RELIGIOUS SERVICES. The Picturesque Village Hall is the scene of many enjoyable gatherings, en tertainments, dances, and the like, and is located near The Holly Inn. It has a large seating capacity and its stage is admirably adapted for amateur theatri cals. Religious Services of various denomi nations are held each Sabbath. The Sunday Evening Sacred Concerts by the Hotel Orchestras at The Carolina and.Holly Inn are attended by all of the Village guests. permitted. The Electric Railroad connects at Southern Pines, (Pinehurst Junction) on the Seaboard Air Line, six miles distant, and touches many points of interest to the visitor along the route. The trip during the Spring when the great peach and pear orchards through which the road passes are in bloom, is much en joyed. Cars are also run to and from the Hotels to the Golf Club House, Trap Shooting Grounds, Pine Grove, Deer Park and local Railroad Station, DEPARTMENT STORE PHARMACY STUDIO. The Department Store is one of the most complete in the State, and it aims at all times to meet the demands made upon it. In connection is a Pharmacy and a souvenir department, containing attractive novelties and needlework. I The Steam Laundry is completely equipped with modern machinery and prepared to do satisfactory work .with the necessary dispatch. Tbe Village JBeautified. The shrubbery of the Village has been carefully cultivated during the summer and is much more beautiful than in years past. Some important improvements have also been made by the replacing oaks with holly and pines. Telephone Service Installed. Connections with the long distance telephone are now complete and sound proof booths have been installed at the General Office, Carolina and Holly Inn. This new feature will be much appre ciated by visitors.
