II K lifth annual Mid winter and Advertising Men's golf tournaments, booked for January l.'Jth to 18th inclusive, proin- -- ises a wonderful week of golf, a week which would be possible at no other resort in the world but Pine hurst. The entry list is already large and will, doubtless, exceed past records, fully one hundred and fifty players partici pating, among them a large number of cracks representing a wide range of ter-ritorv. THE MIDWINTER TOURNEY. The Midwinter event will be conducted upon the Pineiiurst System put into those who fail to qualify, together with putting, approaching and other competi tions for botli men and women. SOCIAL FEATURES. Social features will be made much of during the week, among them the annual dinner of the advertising men and dances, card parties and other affairs at both The Carolina and The Holly Inn.4 naudli: imoicki:ii. A merry company of saddle picnickers spent Tuesday at lilacks Mills under the chaperonage of Mrs. Leonard Tufts and Mrs. Herbert L. .lillson, leaving the Vil lage early in the morning, lunching be neath the pines and returning late in the afternoon. In addition there will be a three division consolation event for those who fail to qualify. Six divisions of sixteen players each are provided for, the winners of the match play rounds winning the Presi dent's, Governor's, Secretary s, Treas urer's, Captain's and Club cups; sterling cups also being given to division runners- up and the winners of consolation di visions, as well as a gold medal for the best qualification score. THE ADVERTISING TOURNEY. X wealth of attractive trophies are offered in the Advertising Men's tourney, and there will be divisions in proportion to the entry list, not less than five six- teens, and possibly more, with four prizes in each division. Qualification will be thirty-six holes, eighteen on the old course and eighteen on the new, with a handicap in connection, two prizes for the best gross scores and two for the best net being offered. A handicap will also be arranged for those who are dropped in the regular tournament, and a match play event for Team Hon ling- lateli AroimeN Inter eat in Old-time League. Interest in bowling was given new in terest during the week through a revival of the old-time bowling league games, The Carolina and Village teams meeting, the former winning by a margin of fifty nine pins. A big crowd followed the fun and in terest awakened bids fair to result in the reorganization of the old league, and a series of matches for the Village cham pionship. The scores : CAKOMNA.
