Society Mrs. Σ. C. Sunders Entert (tins At Β rid ye Mrs. E. C. Sanders was hostess to the Tuesday afternoon bridge club at her residence last week. After several progressions scores were tallied and the high scoro award went to Mrs. D. J. Hughes. Others playing included Mrs. Sand ers, Mesdames B. L. Nesmith, Jr, J. M. McGougan, Harry Bell, J. B. Hardwick, C. Ό. Westmoreland and S. P. Smith. Mrs. Sanders served her guests appple pie and coffee. Gayle Kelly Honored At Party Mrs. David Kelly entertained at the residence of Mrs. P. G. Kelly on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 honoring her daughter, Gayle, on her eighth birthday. Bingo and party games were en joyed during the afternoon at which time prizes were awarded to Lacy Waiden, Alice Ann Home, Mary Margaret Fowler, Anne McClimon and Danna Soles. At the conclusion of games guests were directed to the dining room where they were served ice cream and cake. The refreshment table was covered with a white linen cloth and centered with the birthday cake decorated in the color note of piuk and white, holding eight lighted candles. Guests present included Lany Waiden, Ann McClimon, Agnes Spi vey, Danna Soles, Margaret Jo Mc Cormick, Mary Margaret Powlar, Alice Ann Home. Shelba Jean Hux. Kitty Kelly and Sue Kelly. Mrs. S. W. Caruso assisted Mr.?. Kelly with hostess duties. Mr. and Mrs. Hod yes Entertain At Dinner Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hodges recent ly entertained at a turkey dinner at their home here. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Hodges, Charles, Louise and Mable Lee Hodges; Mr. and Mrs. Ira J. Hodges and daughters. Freeda, Rita and Linda of Wilmington: Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Suggs of Rocky Mount; Lt. and Mrs. R. W. Hemingway of Temple, Texas, and Mrs. Sarah Ann Lewis of Nichols. The occasion marked the Hodges' annual Thanksgiving dinner which was called early this year due to Lt. Hemingway's assignment to re port for overseas duty before the holiday. Mrs. Hemingway is the former Miss Irene Hodges of this city. Woman's Union Meets Tonight The Woman's Missionary Union of the Mount Tabor Baptist church will meet tonight (Friday) to con clude the annual study course. There will be two 45 minute periods with a social hour and refreshments be tween the study hours. Sessions will be held for the Sun beam. R.A.. Y.W.A.. G.A. and Mis sionary union. The general theme of study is missions and the boos is being completed in two evenings. The first session was held last night at the church. Classes will begin at 7:00. ... BIRTHS... Mrs. Β. L. Xesmith Bridge Prize Winner Mrs. C. G. Westmoreland was hostess to the weekly bridge club at her residence Tuesday afternoon at which time the high score award went to Mrs. B. L. Nesmith, Jr. The hostess served a dessert course to the following: Mesdames E. C. Sanders, B. L. Nesmith, Jr., S. P. Smith. D. J. Hughes, J. B. Hardwick, C. H. Pinner, J. O. Prince and J. M. McGougan. Miss Clara Hooks Weds M. P. Wooten Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harrelson of Green Sea announce the marriage of their daughter, Clara Hooks, to Marion Patrick Wooten on Sunday, November 3. in Conway, S. C. Mrs. Wooten is a graduate of the Green Sea high school and Camp bell college, Buies Creek. Mr. Wooten is a son of Mrs. J. T. Wooten of Clarkton, route 2, and is a graduate of Whiteville hig^ school. He received his discharge from the U. S. Navy in August after a year's service. He now holds a position with Carolina Mo tors in Whiteville. j The couple will make their home in Whiteville. Oakdale Y.W.A Meet Friday Mrs. Ehvanda Cartrette was host ess to the Lila Watson Y.W.A. of the Oakdale Baptist chürch at net home on Friday evening, Nov. 15th. Miss Mildred Hardee wis program chairman for the evening and Miss Mary Hardee was in charge of the devotional period. Assisting with the program was Miss Iris Hardee who read a story topiced "Thanks giving Indeed": Miss Corina Cart-1 rette read "Talent For Friendship" | and Mhs Mildred Hardee concluded by reah.g "Judy's Amber Elads". During the business session the group voted to give baskets of fru.t to Mrs. Maggie Hilburn and Mrs. Helen Rhodes for personal service, also during the evening Mrs. Elwan da Cartrette was given a stork show er which was recorded as Y.W.A. personal service. Refreshments were served to Misses Carina and Dulah Cartrette, Misses Iris, Elga, Mary and Mildred Hardr?. Misses Inez Soles. Estell Fowler and Counselor Mrs. Lois Hinson. News From i NICHOLS J The Beta club of the Nichols high school held a social at the home of Lydia Ruth Barfield. This is the first meeting of the club this year. Officers of the club are: Loise Floyd, president: F. S. Bryant. Jr.. vice-president; Lyd?a Ruth Barfield. secretary and treasurer. Martin hospital in Mullins. * sjc d Mrs. George Gigger and Miss Frances McCormick were slightly injured last Monday afternoon when the car in which they were riding overturned on the Nichols-Fair Bluff hgihway. As they attempted to pass a gasoline truck their car struck the soft shoulder and over furned. * * * * Dr. and Mrs. H. S. Gilmore have returned to Nichols after spending ken days in Miami, Fla., where Dr. jilmore attended a medical meet ing. * * * # Miss Beady Owens, of Nichols spent Tuesday with her sister, Miss Margaret Owens in Florence. * * * * Frances Avers, daughter of W. O. Ayers, of Nichols, a home econo mics senior at Winthrop college, is now doing practice teaching for six weeks in the Cowpens sh:ools. Roscoe Beck who is stationfd at Geir Field, Spokane, Wash., has returned to his post after several days leave.
