In noting Mr. John Mcltacken's re turn from "Wilmington, in last week's Leaikk, it was stated that his arm was again broken and reset. This was not the case. The facts are these. The" tendons had become attached to the elbow joint, thereby making the arm stiff; these tendons had. to '-be broken away or detached from the joint.JThis was done and Mr. McUack en's arm is now in a fair way to re cover its former strength. Mention has already been made in these columns of Chief Engineer Dougherty's services in engineering enterprises. Of Mr. Dougherty's as sistants in the work for the Brunswick Western k Southern railroad, Mr Walter J. Mcltae is well known for his work on the Atlantic Coast Line, having just finished on the Wiison Short Cut. Mr. J. II. McCree, had charge of tho Capo Fear & Yadkin Valley railroad terminals at Wilming ton, and" Mr. L. G. Sarrey Corps. Is Camp, Town Creek., Xov. 1 G. Our surveying corps encamped here at first, and dividing into two parties here started towards Southport and Wilmington. The Southport survey is in charge of Chief Engineer Dough- j erty and J. II. McCree, the Wilming ton in charge of Walter G. McRae and L. G. Cherry. 1 am with the South port party and w'e expect to reach your city within ten days. Mr. Geo. II. Cannon, has entertained our par ties with great hospitality, and is en thusiastic for the railroad which will give life and prosperity to -Brunswick county. The people here are all for the road. Our line from here crosses the Wil- mington & Georgetown road near the ten mile post, then towards Wilming ton. The Southport line it Town Creek crosses the "Sawpit," the Wil mington k Georgetown road near twelve mile post, then South 20 de grees East, direct for Southport. Tha weather has been very favorable. W. B. S. ONLY A FEW lots in the Cottage Tract remain for sale at the old prices, and parties wish ing to secure cheap property- for in vestment, should purchase at once. These are the only lots on the market in or near Southport, and the near approach of a railroad to this city makes them especially desirable from a speculative point of view. They are all on high ground, twenty to thirty feet above the Capo Fear River Fifteen hundred dollars in cash have been deposited, subject to -the County Commissioners' order, as a forfeit, if the Brunswick, Western k Southern Railroad Company does not live up to its agreement with Brunswick county. PROPERTY SALE. The long expected sale of the lot fronting on Bay street, belonging to the Lord estate, took place on Tues day at 12.15 o'clock at the Court house door, Mr. M. C. Guthrie con ducting the sale under instructions from Mr. F. A. Lord, Guardian and Mr. P. B. Manning, Attorney for the Lord Estate. The bidding, which was spirited and lively, was started in by Mr. C. L. Stevens, of the Leaden, who bid $500, which was quickly fol lowed by one of $525 by Dr. Curtis. After a bid of $700 Mr. Stevens dropped out, Dr. Curtis raising it to $750. This bid was followed by one of $775 by Mr. W. H, Fyke. The lot was finally knocked down to Mr. Pyke for $885. AVhoever thinks of coming to Wil mington, should not fail to call at Xaumburgs for Hats, Men's Furnish ings and Children's Clothing. REDUCED RATES.
