Ilemember, the registration books close tomorrow evening at sunset. Unless your name is written there, you will not be allowed to vote mat ters not how bad you may want to do so. If you have not already done so, go and register at once. The attention of our lady friends is directed to the change in Messrs. Caffey & Co. ad. to da-. By re fer ine to it thev will sec that the first ten who buy thirty-five cents worth of goods tomorrow will be given each one pound of fino coffee. Dr. White received a letter from Salisbury yesterday stating that an operation was performed on Bud Foster for appendicitis Tuesday, but that no chango in his condition was noticable. It is hoped by a host of friends that it will prove successful. Messrs. Fin ley & Brown have received and fixed for operation a corn shredder. This is the first one that will have been used in this section, which demonstrates the fact that our people do not propose to bo left in the march of progress ion. ! We learn that all the .Republicans in this township have registered, and all the Democrats have done so but seven or eight. If you know of any who has not done so, insist on bis once. We cannot afford to lose any. The freight trafic is the heaviest on this line now it has ever been. The incoming freight Monday night brought fifteen solid cars for this place, which is the largest train load of stuff ever brought to this plaee. This shows that there is something doing with our merchants. The camp yards in town Wudncs dajT night reminded one of old times. It is cstimatid that there were over one hundred andfifty wagons in town loaded wih mountain produce. This means that our mcchants and pro duce dealers were very busy ycstcr day. The prices on some articles, such as cabbage and apples, is down at present, but sufficient to induce the market to continue flush. The prices on this market are always higher than in neigboring towns. Porter and Lyon Withdraw. Messrs. Porter and Lyon, the in dependent Republican candidates for the Legislature, have withdrawn from the race. This leaves only the regular nominees in the field Messrs. Hacket and York, Demo crats, and Bryan and Pegram, He publican. Tho campaign this week has progressed as usual. .Tho pros pects for the election of Messrs. Hackett atid Y rk grow brighter, but this is not surprising, if our peo plo want Representatives at Raleigh who will secure legislation that will benefit tho county. If these two gentlemen are electod, and we be lieve they will be, the affairs of Wilkes will bo looked after as never before. They cannot afford to elect Pegram and Bryan would do no good if he were sent to Raleigh--if his record as a "representee.- is a fair criterion. . . The Calendar a Farce Court Adjourn ed Till Monday The Vickers Case. That the court calendars as ar ranged in the past have proven a failure there is no mistake, and tho one prepared for this term of court was no exception. Judge Shaw dis missed the jury Tuesday until Mon day, and Wednesday at noon he ad journed court until then there was nothing doing. This of course did not suit him for he is a mover. The contempt cases, which were continued from last term, were dis posed of as soon as the facts were brought forward O: MTriplett was dismirscd. I. T. ArafsfiaU "was" sent to jail for ten days. - - Many cases on the docket ' were disposed by non-suits; etc. It is thought that the docket -wjU -Cleared next week. r'-.? The jury cases carried ovcr vthis week will be disposed of first Mon day. One among the most , import ant is the Vickers divorce caso. Mrs. Vickers No. 1 came in front Georgia Wednesday and will go on tho wit ness stand- her answer, which is quite lengthy, was filed several days ago. Iler lawyer will be assisted by J. W. McNeill. Mrs. Vickers No. 2 left for her old home in Jones villo Wednesday. There is a great deal of speculation as to the result of the trial. Both sides seem to be confident of winning. Solicitor, spoko to a large and appreciative audience in acw Era Hall last night. Several ladies graced the occasion with their presence. Wc regret that space for bids our going into details, but many who heard him say it was the best speech that has been heard in North Wilkesboro during tho compaign clear, conservative, concise. Ho is an able debator and his coming to Wilkes has been fruitful. At close of his speech ho was presented with a handsome bouquet iu behalf of the ladies of the town. No, the members of his family had nothing to do with preparing it. . Returned to His Old Home. Mr.S.iF. Perking and daughter ar rived here last night from West Vi r ginia, returning to their former home in Wilkescouniy. The father stated that he went to West Virginia last August to work in the coal mines, but the union men gave him trouble and he decided to return home. Mr. Perkins stated that the union strik ers destroyed his property and it was dangerous for a man to remain there.
