No salute was fired this morning in
recognition of our national holiday.
The daily papers ol the State will
oblige us by a prompt exchange with
the Constitution.
Several arrests have been made for
drunkenness and disorder during the
day, but not more than is usual on the
fourth, the fifth notwithstanding.
The post-office, all the banks, the Su
perior and Supreme courts, were closed,
thus observing this as a national holi
day.

Our city polico in their new and

RALEIGH G;v MONDAY
Religious Sunday in Raleigh. .
Sunday, was a lovely , day, the gloomy
portending ot its early dawn to'the con
trary notwithstanding. The churches
were all well attended; at each service.
It was our intention to give our readers
a brief resume of the doings at each of
our city churches yesterday, but we
have necessarily, been confined to a few
in this issue. For the " future : our . ar
rangements will be . more perfect, and
we hope to succeed! n our -endeavors to
report correctly 'all that takes place in
the city during the holy Sabbath.

affect deeply the large congregation
who heard it.
A, M. E. Church. The pulpit of this
church was filled by Rev. G. 'W.Morris
Presiding Elder "of Raleigh District,

f Firemen's Union. The Firemen's
Union of orth Carolina (colored) held
their second annual- meeting at ' War-

State were represented, and it proved a
pleasant occasion to all. The following
officers- were elected for the ensuing
year: . .... .

The - Union- was joined by the two
companies from this city on the 2d, and
a grand parade was ihad, headed by the
Oak City Brass Band. All speak' well
of the occasion and of the cordial and
hospitable manner in -which they were
received and , entertained by the good
people of; Warrenton. ? , -

transacted, which is is hoped and be
