Just before 3 o'clock Dr. Bass grew visibly weaker and the physicians pro nounced the end near. Messrs. Gilliam & Gilliam and G. M. T. Fountain, represent the defense, and B. H. Bunn appears for the State. By agreement of counsel pending the result of . Dr. Bass' wound. Dr. Baker is to be admitted to .bail .from day to day, the bond being nxea at a,vuv. After the arrival of Dr. Jee, oi ui folk, and Dr. Tayloe, of Washington, it was determined to perf of m the operation. The condition of Dr. Bass was such that he .could not be moved to the hospital An operation was the one hope for this good man. The opera tion began just before 5 o'clock. A letter received by Dr. Bass is. said to have been the cause of the attack. The contents of such-letter, if there was one, has not been yet made public. J E.
