Bury Me on the Field, Hoys. Richmond State. A Confederate officer, while lead ing a charge in one of the recent bat ties before Richmond, fell mortally wounded, exclaiming: "Bury me on the field, boys." BI MISS MART S GRASOJT. Bury me on the field, boys I When the deadly strife is o'er, This trusty blade I'll wield, boys, For our firesides never more: iome, raise my Dead, l scarce can hear The thundering cannon's roar. Bury me where the countless dead In dreainlPRfl tlnmhtF raat. "Where the charger's iron hoof may tread O'er the sod that wraps my breast; awe iet me sieep, since victory Our glorious cause hath blessed. Yes, lay me here, where these pine trees wave, In the evenincr'a solemn Vmsli Where stars may chine on my lowly grave, Where the morning: sun may blush; ana i n oe proua to rest, boys, Where our dauntless columns rush Shed not one tear for me nay, never, my comrades, brave and bold; I shrink not back from that dark river Which flows so icv cold: But wish my mother could hold my nana, And kiss me as of old. My sight is growing strangely dim, I feel Death's chilly wine: Methought I heard the cradle hymn My mother used to sine:: Strange how such pleasant fantasies 'JLnis parting hour should bring. Nay.pause not by my Bide, boys, See where our flag on high ' Floats o'er the battle's tide, boys Haste 1 to that standard fly And tell my dear old mother, boys, Her son knew how. to die. Bury him on the field, boys, By light of the dying: sun. With the sword he used to wield boys, For the conflict now is done: Nor weep, for that warrior brave brave, boys, A double crown hath won Queen Anne county, Md. A NOTABLE MARRIAGE. How a X. C. Girl Scooped in a Westerner at Long Mange. A letter from Scotland Neck, N C, to the Richmond Dispatch says "A remarkable marriage occurred near Le wist on a few days ago. Some two years ago a quartermaster in the United States army at Fort Riley, Kan., advertised for a female corre spondent with a view to matrimony " A young lady i i Bertie county named Eliza Drew jokingly answered the ad vertisement. She could not read nor write, but some friend wrote for her. Her letter was answered, pho tographs were exchanged, and it is laid that 150 letters were exchanged The young lady was poor, had work ed in the field, cooked and washed all her life, is not good looking, weighs 220 pounds, and wears a No 8 shoe. She wrcte the young army officer all these facts, but to the sur prise of everybody he came a short time ago with plenty of money, stay ed a few days at the girl's house, gave her money to dress herself up, and married her. He took her off on a bridal tour to Washington City. He says he will show her something of the world, bring her back to see her parents, and then take her to Kansas." The Western Conference. Concord Standard. The committee appointed at the last meeting of the Methodist church for this State, to divide this confer ence have come to a decision and re commend the division by a line run ning with the Yadkin river from the South Carolina line to a point in the Northerh part of Stanly, then cross ing the Yadkin so as to include Ran kolph, Guilford and Rockingham counties.
