How About the Idex ? Nei Monday the Board of County Commiasionen meet in regular month ly session, and if they ooninlt the public interest to the extent we think they aboald, they will address them selves to the task of having prepared a well executed index for the county. We have frequently alluded to this matter and pointed out, as best we could, its importance to the people of Wake eounty. Just why it is so long neglected we are at a loss to under stand. Everybody must admit that it is a necessity, and it must be pro Tided some time. Then why delay it. Every day it is postponed the matter gets worse, and if it is much ooger left as at present, it will be the ource of many vexations. Let the commissioners attend to it at once The people demand it, and will hold those responsible for its delay. Resignation. We hear that Mr. P. W. Capehart, clerk in the Executive office, has re signed that position and will make his future home in Washington Gitr. Mr. Capehart was appointed to the office of Executive Clerk, by the late Governor Danel 6. Fowle, upon whose death Le was retained by Gov. Holt. That Mr. Capehart has made a most efficient official, goes without saying, with all who have had busi ness at the department. We speak from experience when we say, that we know of no more courteous and obliging young gentleman, and the Vi si to u takes this occasion to return to him and to the polite and gentle manly Mr. Telfair, Private Secretary, sincere thanks for their many acts of kindness. We are not informed of the nature of the business in which Mr. Capehart will embark, but we feel assured, that his friends in Raleigh will wish him all the success his meiits deserve. Died. At the residence of her son, Mr. W. H. Andrews, 190 West Lane street, at 1:39 o'clock this afternoon, Mrs. Bet tie Parrish. She was abont 104 years of age. She was an old lady when the corner stone of the capitol was laid and at that time had seven chil dren. She married twice, and has three sons living now. The funeral will be held from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. W. B. Godwin, a wholesale gro cer of Winston, N. C, died in that place last Friday evening, aged 35 Mr. Godwin had recently removed to Winston from Portsmouth, Va., and was hit hly esteemed in all the rela tions of life. He was a son in law of onr fellow citizen, Capt C. B. Den son, of this city. The Wilmington Bank. We talked with a gentleman last Saturday afternoon from the ( ape Fear section who seemed somewhat familiar with tbe status of affairs of the First National Bank of Wilming ton, lately suspended He says there is very little, if any, apprehension on the part of the stockholders of the Bank, as to its ability to meet all the liabilities to depositors. He is of the opinion that the suspension of the bank was a prudent move, but for which serious consequences might have ensued Hon Daniel L. Rus sell will probably be appointed re eeiver, and the flairs of the institu tion will be arranged with all possi ble dispatch. ' Sale of Feal Estate. By virtue of a mortgage f' rom P. F.
