There are now about 185 convicts in the penitentiary inclosure. The health of the inmates continues fair lygood. The through fast train passes through Baleigh with remarkable punctuality. It is rarely a few min ute s out of time. The executive committee of the Board of Agriculture will probably go to Chicago in July to examine the North Carolina exhibit. Rev. J R Ball, of Greensboro, a prominent and influential minister of the Methodist Protestant church, died yesterday afternoon. One convict was received at the penitentiary from Graham county yesterday afternoon. He is ;put in for 12 months for larceny. No better opportunity to visit the western portion of North Carolina than the excursion to ' Asheville on the 27th iust. iJe sure to go. It is said that Bon Henry Watter eon is a most untiring worker when on duty at the office of the Courier Journal. He frrquently works 16 hours out of the 24. Look at the picture of the Prince of Wales in the Durham smoking to bacco advertisements and compare it with a well known railroad man of this state Bow does it strike you? When you read this, hurry at once to the office of the clerk of the Su preme Court, where the North Car olina Relic Association is in session. It met at 4:30 o'clock this afternoon. A fact that justices of the peace ehould note, is that a removal from a township in which the office is held causeB a vacancy. Such persons pre turning to act are declared guilty of a misdemeanor. Attention is directed to the adver tisement of J W Littlejohn, corner of South Swain and East Cabarrus streets, where can be found at all times a select stock of groceries, &c. Give him a call. It strikes us that it would prove a great help. ' The subject and the man are both attractive. The Liquor .Dealers Association will meet at Metropolitan Hall on the 21st Inst. Now, if our friend will push the matter to a successful issue before the Board of Aldermen, he will deserve epecial thanks. As it now appears we are to have no 4th of July celebration, in this city, nnd a very large crowd will ro doubt take advantage of the reduced rates to take in the Guilford Battle Grornd exercises. A tremendons attendance is looked for from all over the State. It is a consolation to know, that al though the offices of the Seaboard Air Line are to be removed the shops will remain. It would indeed have been a serious blow to Raleigh, if the removal talked of some time since had been carried out.
