Is - Feared Soldiers Rushed,, From Havana to Santiago to Put Down, Revolts Believed That Rebel Generals Rare Force of Several Thousand. (By Leased Wire to The Times) Havana. July 26 Reyolt has bro ken out) in Santiago province. An uprising of ihe negroes Is feared One thousand tnen, equipped on a war basis and taking field guns, were rushed from Havana early today to meet the Insurgents, who are com manded by General Mlniet and Col onel Janet. The Ru rales at every point have been advised to be on their guard and fighting Is believed to be Immi nent. The exact force of the rebels is not definitely known, according to semi official statements,, but the state of rebellion is authoritatively admitted. It is understood that Mlniet has un der him or on the way to his head quarters' several .' thousand men. The government '.is concentrating troops and the railroad officials have been ordered to have special trains ready for instant departure. The garrison at Santiago has been noti fied that reinforcements will be sent as soon as possible. The first move of the rebels, ac cording to the reports of spies who have been watching the preparations for revolt, would be upon Santiago, with the idea of making that a pro visional capital. The rebels lie in the region of El Caney. Mlniet went there when he dropped from sight two days ago, about the same time that Janet dis appeared. The government has not been taken by surprise, as the revolution ary attempt has been imminent for some time; the- hotbed being Santi ago. Senor Menocal, who was 'defeated for president by President Gomez, is aiding the insurgents, as are Generals Rabi and Cebrego, according to the reports here. The two latter are known as opponents to the govern ment.'.' : : The expedition against the rebels is headed by General Monteagudo, of the Burales. j The defection of a large body of government troops Was reported here this morning. The government de nied the truth of the rumor. Government supporters, however, admit that in some sections the movement will probably secure pop ular support. THE CRIPPEN CASE. Father of the Girl Who Disappeared Waiits Vengeance. (By Cable to The Times) London July 26 "If the law is unable to punish Crippen I will take vengeance for the wrongs he has done my daughter." White with hatred for Dr. Hawley Harvey Crippen the American wanted here in connection with the murder of his wife, Belle Elmore, Walter Neave today made this declaration. He Is the father of Ethel Clare LeNeve, the pretty girl, who posing as French, was for years Crippen's stenographer and is now believed to be with him. Not for an hour since the case be came public has Neave failed to fol low every development. He has spent day after ,day about Scotland Yard, craving every bit of information vouchsafed by the men directing the search which covered the entire world. ' "I still believe that the American exercised and exercises a peculiar Lovely Complexion A Clear Skin and Bright Eyes Are -Easy to Get. All the beauty creams in creation won't , improve your complexion if your stomach is out of order. Belching of gas and heartburn mean stomach misery, biliousness, dizziness and indigestion. They re lieve in a few minutes; they make rich, red blood. They are guaran teed to cure or money back. Read what a Kansas woman says: "I want to praise Ml-o-na stomach tabletB, for I had been doctoring for over a year for stomach' trouble and found nothing that did me as much good as Mi-o-na does. I only have the second box and it has relieved all pain in my stomach. For' all who suffer from stomach trouble or indi gestion Mi-o-na can't be beaten. After a spirited discussion by a number of. women, a prominent Daughter of the American Revolution arose and said: "We needn't all get our feathers up simply because Mrs. Longworth smokes cigarettes. Why, one hundred years ago - our great grandmothers sat with their husbands and smoked corncob pipes. ; : power over my daughter,' said Neave. "It may be hypnotism, as I have said, but whatever it is I will break that power, no matter what the cost." Though the detectives, from Sir Melville MacNaughton down, are sat isfied that Crippen and the girl are on the Montrose and' that Inspector Dew will nab them after the liner Laurentic has beaten out the slower boat in the race across the ocean, other scents continue to reach head quarters of the hunt. These are fol lowed as a precaution, no matter how hopeless they appear on the surface. Interest in the case is still at fever heat. Not in years has London been so wrought up over a murder, mys tery. Betting on. Crippen's possible capture is going on in the clubs and on the stock exchange, where the odds today are four to one that he would kill himself and two to one that he and the girld would end their lives. . The police have pieced together the movements of "the. couple from the time of their disappearance on June 9 and are now in a position to show fairly well where they were every day from the time they left London till they boarded the Montrose. The report published here ; that Crippen and the girl' had been ar rested by the captain of ' the Mont rose has attracted much attention. Scotland Yard officials, however, re fused to comment on . It today. Nevertheless the fact that Dew has been in communication with his chief here and has been trying to reach the Montrose's captain by relaying wire less messages is reported authorita tively. At noon today (London time, which would be 7:00 a. m., New York time) the Laurentic was but 250 miles behind the Montrose. - -, :. Hay Fever and Asthma. V ; (Special to The Times.) Scotland Neck, N. C., July 26 The democratic county executrve committee, has named August 19th for he county primaries, at which time a legislative and county ticket will be named under the new legal ized county primary law. So far no agreement has been reached by which the two factions will get together and settle their differences in the prima- rjes. .Two years ago the antis were bowling for a legalized primary, ana now they have It, they refuse to ac cept it. ' There are some objection able features In the law, but this can easily be remedied In the next legis lature. The Independents declare the primary is far worse than the old sys tem of nominating and the resolution was introduced in the county conven tion two years ago by one of their number. They got what they asked for and now won't have it. Sunday evening at the conclusion of his sermon In the Baptist church. Rev. R. A. McFarland tendered his resignation as pastor to accept - the pastorate of the Suffolk Baptist church. The resignation was reluct antly accepted by his flock and is to take effect the first of September. This Is the third time the Suffolk church has called Mr. McFarland this year, and, under the circumstances, he could do nothing but accept it. He stated in his remarks when offer ing his resignation that there were four things he wanted his congrega tion to do, namely: to accept his re signation promptly, to get another man immediately, to not feel unkind ly toward him, and to make him a delegate to the Roanoke Association which meets the first week in Octo ber. ' Mr. McFarland has been here a lit tle over two years, and during this brief period has done a mighty work. He has made everybody in Scotland Neck his friend and admirer and we hear nothing but the keenest regrets expressed by every one that this gift ed young minister has seen proper to sever his connection with the church here. ; Mr. F. A. Riff has passed the exam ination before the State Board of Op tometry and is now a full-fledged op tician.
