We hear of large orders from West Oxford Land stock being constantly received. Yesterday was a particular ly good day. Our candidates for the scarlet de gree presented himself at the meeting of Oxford Lodge No. 103, 1. O. O. F. 1 1 mt . last nignt. mere were two petitions for membership before the lodge. There will be a meeting of the stockholders of the Covenant Buildinsr and Loan Association at the Register of Deeds office tonight at 8 o'clock for the purpose of electing officers. A big find of copper, the largest and richest yet, is reported from the Blue Wing section. Virgilina, a rail road station in Virginia, is the closest depot, and is already putting on airs. There was a little local scare on ac count of a fire last evening. The cause was the burning out of a chim ney at Mr. W. L. Mitchell s residence. No damage done. The fire alarm was not sounded. It is reported that owing to his blindnes, editor Pulitzer, of the World, has sold that paper to a syndicate composed of G. W. Childs and A. J. Drexel, of Philadelphia, and others, for the price of $4, 000,000. The re port further states that the control of the caper will pass into the hands of the syndicate Jan. 1st, next. Nelson, who is superintending the building of the Henderson waterworks, made a proposition to put in a system of water works in Oxford, which the Mavnr re- vJuested himo submit in writing. The Stanwix Co , of Rome, N. Y., was also repreiented. The board will take further time to consider the mat ter. No decisive steps will be taken until a thorough investigation of the merits and demerits of the various systems are made. New County Officers. All ot the new county officers have entered upon their respective duties, Under the law which treats the whole term of the court as one day, ex-Clerk Lassiter is still clerk to this term of the court. R. VV. JLassiter, Jr., holds over as deputy clerk. Sheriff Jasi A. Crews tendered his official bonds,, yesterday, which were accepted. He immediately entered upon the duties of his office. J. A.. Taylor will be his chief deputy. The bonds are as follows : For the faithful performance of his official du ties, in the sum of $10,000. A fire occurred in a warehouse of the Alliauce at Newman, Ga.,last night destroying it completely. Loss $50, 000. Glover, of Kansas, is spoken of as the candidate for President of the Farmers Alliance, though it is thought likely that Polk will be re-elected. The force bill came up in the Senate yesterday. The more conservative Republicans protested but the partisans have a little power left yet and used it; Fire yesterday destroyed the Geor gia Railroad offices and lreight depot and partially burned the Union pass enger station at Augusta, Ga. The total loss is about $75,000. A Birmingham, 4.1a., special says: A strike of the coal miners of Alabama went into effect yesterday but all - the men did not go out as expected. Of the 8, coo free miners that 6.000 are out. .
