Concert Friday Night. A large, refined music-loving audi ence is expected to attend the concert in the Opera House next Friday night. IV Eooth Entertains His Friends Handsomely Maic and Dancing Aames of Those Present. That the time honored Virginia hospitality suffers naught by being transplanted into Granville soil, was last evening made manifest to those who wtre so fortunate as to be present at the candy stew. The entertainment was given by John B. Booth in the spacious hall of his leaf tobacco factory, and was attended by a select number oi his friends, both married and single. . While the aphorism that 4Oxford's girls ?re North Carolina's beauties" needs not to be kept bright by oft repetition, it might be advantageously amended so as to include her matrons also, a all who were present last even ing will readily agree. t The htost, being yet in the full en joyment of single blessedness, was ably assisted by Mrs. W R. Peters, to whom the thanks of all are due for the very delicious candy which she so deftly prepared. Nothing was left undone which could possibly have conduced to the enjoyment of the gay throng of guests. Overbey's Orchestra, the sight of which lightens the feet, was there. Pleasants seats wrere placed in shadowy -nooks where soft word might be spoken without molestation. Promenades were provided for the ac tively inclined, while lounges for the more sober-sided were arranged around the fire-side. Terpsichore must not be slighted by such a one of her dis ciples, so a portion of the hall was re served as a shrine at which her devo tees worshipped. Altogether the aftair was thoroughly enjoyable, and it is the unanimo is wish of all his friends, and their name is Legion, that Mr. Booth may long- live to preside over similar occasions. The following were present : Mrs. W. R. Peters with J. B. Booth ; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. White ; Mr. and Mrs. E. T. White; Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Royster ; Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Cooper; Mr. and Mrs. H. G. The martlf hx rnntinned verv dull for an . . .... other week ann sa ps have neen verv small of 'North Carolina brights. Very little is. expected in the way ot trade until after the Christmas holidays. The breaks ' of dark loose tobacco have been full, as well as of West Virginia, and prices of both have been very stiff, with probably some advance for, the better grades. Receipts of -old tobacco have been extremely light. Shipments are also light, but in excess of receipts. We are all looking forward in bright anticipation to next year's business. With an easier money market every thing indicates a prosperous year in tobacco. Out Exchange w ill be clos ed from the 24th inst. until the 2nd of January. j. "Man and Master". '-'Monday night. Seats on sale at usqal place. The Annapolis, Md,, Daily Bulletin says: , 'The large audienc that assembled 2t the Opera House last night expect ed to see the same New York Theatre Company that appeared here last year. In this they were disappointed, as but two or three members of the old com pany are with it this season. But in a short while their disappointment was turned into gladness fyr the new mem bers proved themselves to be equally as capable of performing their respec tive parts as the old members. Mr. Presley B. French is again with the company and when he appeared on the stage last night he was received with loud applause; thus showing that Mr. French is a great favorite in Annapo lis. The play was 'Alan and Master Mr. French appearing as the 'Man and Mr. GeoT.
