" The large new building in South Oxford for the Modern Tobacco Barn Company is finished.!' The barn manu facturing plant will be removed here from . High Point sometime next month. A Raleigh correspondent of the Wil mington Alessenger says that the new superintendent, Dr. Black, has gone to Newbern to secure a well-informed man to take charge next year of the truck' farm at the Oxford Orphan Asylum. The concert i at the Opera House Friday night, December 26, ".-by. the Madame Fry's Concert Company, ought to draw a full house. Those who enjoy good music, vocal and in strumental, and reading and recita tion by an elocutionist of reputation, should attend by ail means. Such an opportunity is ratV.y offered in Ox ford. The Fry Concert Company, of Boston, provid ed .he entertainment, and an excellent one it was. Perhaps the most de lightful item in the whole program was the vocal quartette, 'Legends.' It is one of the most musical and catch ing compositions that Mohnng ever wrote, and Madame Fry and herdaugh ters did every justice. It is - scarce ly necessary to add that it was enthus iastirally encored. Miss Lulu Fry's flute solo was one of, the delights of the evening, and in response. . to an enthusiastic encore the lair musician gave a lively rendering of ' The Last Rose of Summer.' . A GOOD COMPANY . The New York Theatre Company last night opened an engagement' in Durham with the play, "Man and Master." - . ' The Sun says of the troupe and per formance: "The New York Theatre Company is a good one. Every member.plays well. 'Man and Master' was given lasc evening in an enjoya ble manner. The -'--corn pah y possesses genuine, merit and very general satis faction was expressed when the end was reached. Mis Helen Minkley, as Chick; was winsome and 1 captivated the audience. Tony Bregazzi, as Lar ry, is almost excellent comedian and in all other plays he will be looked for with great interest. The Granville Institute, one of the most popular sand prosperous of Ox ford's fine institutions of learning closed its fall session last evening, with a highly! successful and very, en tertaining parlor concert. Comment upon each and every number of the program is a job the re porter, whose knowledge of music is limited, would not dare undertake. All of the performers did well nota bly well, and were warmly compli mented by the cultivated audience The young ladies acquitted them selves with great credit, and conferred honor upon their talented music in structor, Miss Hvde. The Tobacco Board of Trade cf Oxford met in the courthouse last night. President E. ; G. Currin was in the chair, and there was a good atten dance, j A committee, composed of Maj. N. A. Gregory Dr. E- T. White and John Meadows, was appointed to-; re vise the by -laws. It was decided to suspend sales at the warehouses for a week begining tomorrow. The warehouse doors will be opened promptl as u ual January 1, 1S91, for business, . Arrangements will be made to fit up room on second fl jor of the new bond ed storage warehouse for use as Ex change and meetings of the boards Christmas Fireworks. The boys have three nights and two days in which to let off their Christ mas enthusiasm in fireworks. Mayor Smith has issued the following.- Notice is hereby given that' fire works (but no fire-arms or weapons of any kind) may be shot and displayed within the corporate limits of Oxford from 5 o'clock, p. m., 24th December, 1890, to 6 o'clock, a. m., Dec. 27th, 1890, under section 13 of the charter of Oxford.
