23 SERIES STUDEBAKER LIGHT-SIX SEDAN $1550
Hidden qualities largely determine the
value and life of a closed car.
Beauty of line and finish and refine
ments are surface indications and impor
tant ones. But your satisfaction with a
closed car depends to a great degree upon
factors that are unseen—the in-built qual
ities that come from correct design, use of
highest grade materials and careful work
manship.
The 23 Series Studebaker Light-Six
Sedan is a quality car. It is built to endure
to give lasting satisfaction.
The Sedan body is substantially made.
It will last for years and retain its beauty
and comfort. Evidence of its hidden
goodness lies in the fact that down under
the paint and varnish, the pillars, roof
rails and supporting members are made
from specially selected ash. Good ash is
expensive but Studebaker uses it because
it best combines the proper strength and
weight. ^
Four wide-opening doors make it easy
for all passengers to get in or out without
inconvenience to each other. A high-grade
heater affords summer warmth on cold,
damp days. The wide windows give
broad vision in every direction.
When you buy a Light-Six Sedan you
are really accepting the judgment of
100,000 owners who have found the
Light-Six chassis so satisfactory. ,
Studebaker quality is traditional.

EASTER MESSAGE
Our Easter message to you, the
same that the angel gave to Mary
about two thousand years ago when
she visited the tomb of Jesus that
first Eastern morning is: "Go Quick
ly" and tell the story of the risen
Lord and His love. If you cannot go
and take the message, send the mes
sage.
In the great U. S. Veterans Hospi
tal at Oteen there are about 900 pa
tients as the resutt of th? most
cruel and unnecessary war the world
has ever known. They are making
the same heroic , fight against the
Grim Minster, but at far greater odds,
I as they did in the battlefields of
} France. Many of them win the fight
! and return to home, loved ones and
active life; others succumb.
Flowers are God's messengers of
His great love, their fragrance and
beauty embodying the--highest 'and
most perfect love.
A potted plant in flower and bunch
es of flowers, God's messengers of
love, will be placed at the bedside
and in the hands of.eve?y one at this
hospital and in the Red Cross by the
Baraca Philathea Union of Notth Car
olina for Easter, and at frequent in
tervls throughout the year. This has
been done by the Baracs and Phil
atheab since the establishment of the
! hospitals, and will be continued.
May we feel it a sacred privilege
to know that each of us.—all—every
body have had an opportunity to
send flowers to these boys and girls,
our heroes and heroines, who have
sacrificed health, home, family and
life itself for freedom, for you, and
for me. Funds in any amount are
solicited for the "flower fund" fpr the
patients at Oteen. Acknowledg
ment will be made of each amount re
ceived and used for this purpose, and
each person or organization given
proper credit for this gift or love.
Send check,* money order or draft
to the undersigned, and oblige.
Yours sincerely,
MRS .N. BUCKNER,
General Secretary.

} Why Sailors Tatoo Their Bodies.
T.he practice of tateoing, which men
of the still favor, was first derived
from their visits to uncivilized tribes
of India. No doubt the first sailor
who observed a tatooed native was
interested, and the only way he could
tell the folks back horn ewhat he had
seen was to bring a sample of it on
himself. Later a tatoo mark on some
part of the body was a sure isgn of a
much-traveled man.
Tatooing is of two kinds. One meth
of is to make small punctures in the
skin into which dyes are put, accord
ing to the design planned. The other
method is accomplished by re
peatedly making cuts in the skin so
that the resulting scars, without the
addition of coloring matter, will form
the design when healed Color tatoo
ing has always been more or less or
namental, but scar-tattooing is more
frequently used to produce distin
guishing tribal marks—even of dif
ferent ranks within the tribe. Some
tribes scar the whole body—others
only certain portions.
Most native tribes tattoo their mar
ried women in some form or other.
In some tribes the young unmarried
women are tattooed on their bodies
before marriage, and then are sub
jected to having their faces so marked
just before or immediately after mar
riage.
Kings Mountain As a Mil! Center.
(From The Harald)
We quote a Shelby dispatch last
week as saying that there were 1 6
cotton miHs in Cleveland County by
counting the one just started in Wa
co. We find upon counting up that
the Maco miil wiil make out 21 milis
in the couniy. Kings Mountain has
11 of these instead of 10 as stated
!as tweek. The things bob up so fast
that i tbothers us to keep them count
ed. So, we have one mill more than
aii the rest of the county put to
gether.

The watch is a very ancient looking

Thomas Jefferson is engraved in the

$500 for it but he would not sell it.

Nothing So Good For a Cough or Cold
"Everyone who has used Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy speaks well of
it," writes Edward P. Miller, Abbotts

preparation are seldom satisfied with
any other. It is excellent to aJlay a

—Copper is more valuable than
gold from a standard of usefulness.
Gold is heavy, soft, of low tensile
strength, high electrical resistance,
low heat conductivity. Cpoper is
employed in so many uses that if it
should fail, civilization would halt
its onward march until some substi
tute could be produced.
