An emi nant dealer says: “Contrary to the popular belief, sunburn is not caused by the heat, noit by the di.tect rays of the sui^. The fact that we have red blood saves us from discomfiture in the direct ] rays of the sun. Sunburn is caused by the bombardment of the direct rays, plus the reflected actinic rays1 which are thrown hack by the water. “Most people think heat causes the trouble. Not at all. The worst case of sunburn I was ever called upon to treat was that of a man who had been to the top of Pike’s Peak. Here the reflected rays from the snow and ice and rocks causd a very severe case of sunburn although the temperature was decidedly low. “Red serves as a combatant of the reflected sun’s rays as it absorbs them. I don’t see how any girl who uses rouge or lip stick plentifully before going in the water can suf fer from sunburn. A red bathing suit would be the ideal solution for preventing sunburn. I have even directed some of my patients who burn easily to wear red veils, as they absorb the rays. “The best treatment for sunburn is to dissolve plain laundry starch or1 com starch in water and apply it. This helps the inflamed condition by evaporation.” ! __ i —Another one of life’s inconsis tencies is that we have a Republican j form of government and still are a democracy. COLDS AFFECT THE KIDNEYS I i Many Oxford People Have Found i This To Re True. i Are you wretched in bad weather? ! Does every cold settle on your kid-l neys ? j Does your back ache and become weak? Are urinary passages irregular and distressing? - ! These symptoms are cause to sus pect kidney weakness. Weakened kidneys need quickv Doan’s Pills are espceially pre pared for weakened kidneys. \ Oxford people recommend them. As kyour neighbor! i Louis Smith, 1 Church St., Oxford, says: “I was subject to colds and every time the weather changed my back was sure to give out. I had a dull, steady ache in my kidneys and when sat down my back bothered me. At times, my kidneys acted too freely and the secretions burned in passage. I read in Doan’s Directory about Doan’s Pills one day and decid ed to try them. am glad did be cause in a short time my back was strengthened 3%d I was rid of the trouble and best of all, it hasn’t re turned.” Price 60c, at al Idealers. Don’t simply ask for a kidney remedy—get Doan’s Pills—the same that Mr. Smith had. Foster- Milburn Co., Mfrs., Buffalo, N.
