Air Force Recruiters Get Spiendid Resu!ts After four months of operation as an independent organization, the United States Air Force re- ' cruiting service tallied a personnel procurement average of 99.8 per cent, according to Sgt. Jimmy Wil- i liams. in charge of the local Air Force recruiting station located in the court house. The achievement is notable. Sgt Williams said, "because, while : we were building towards an or- ! ganization in July we were also op erational. Even with this handicap we managed to wind up July's re cruiting efforts with an 88.8 per centage." Since then the program gained impetus and in August the recruit ing service wound up with 96.8 per cent. September was the most fruit ful and netted 114.9 per cent. Octo ber which was a nip and tuck month ended with 98.2 per cent. Sgt. Williams attributed the high enlistment rate in the Air Force to the fact that, more and more young Americans have become aware of technical and ,educational training advantages available m the Air Force. In their quewt end desire for ieamMjj^ skills, thousands of votuntarily choose the . ... a branch of service which offer! great opportunity, and* at the same time enabies them to meet their miiitary service obligatidhd. ^=3 the Air Harce as In 1920 it took three pounds of coai to generate one kilowatt hour of eiectric energy. Today one pound of coai does the same job and if electricity were being generated now at the tow efficiency ievei of 34 years ago. aimost 350.000.000 tons of coai would have been needed to generate 219.000.000.000 kilowatts produced in 1953. Actually, 116., 000.000 tons were used, a new all time high record. The Man wtto rays me freight — Samuei Davis Hardware,, fne. Ciarksviiie, Va O 28 ea fri tf S N OR K E L $7.50 Up $!
