Orange county that a terrible tragedy
was enacted near Rapidan Station, in
that county, on Friday last, the par-J
ticulars of which, as far, as ,wo; could
learn ' them, 'were as follows: Mr.
Wm. Walker, a farmer residing near:
Rapidan, determined on putting an
erid to his life while in a temporary
fit of insanity-, and with this purpose
provided himself with a pistol, arid
went to an upper room in his dwelling.
His daughter, a young lady just grown
up,' observed hia moments, and, sus
pecting his intention, followed Mnuto
the room, the door of which was un
locked, entering tho room just as her
father was cocking the pistol. Scream
ing out at' the top of her voice, in or
der to alarm the other inmates of the
house and secure their assistance, she
threw herself upon her father, and
seizing -the weapon, endeavored , to
wrench it from his grasp. In the
struggle that ensued the weapmr was
accidentally n red, and the ball, pass-
