When I consider life and its few
years?
A wisp cf fog between us and the
sun;
A call to battle, and the battle done
Ere the last echo dies within our
ears;
A rose chocked in the grass: an
hour of fears;
The gusts that past a darkening
shore do beat;
The burst of music down an unlistening
street?
I wcndei at the idleness of tears.
Ye old, old dead, and ye of yesternight,
Chieftains and bards, and keepers
of the sheep,
By every cup of sorrow that you
had,
loose me from tears, and make me
see aright
Hew each hath back what once he
stayed to weep;
Homer his sight, David his little
lad!

A CORRECTION
In a recent account of the Thursday
afternoon card club this paper
credited Mrs. V. P. Ward with winning
the series club prize, but neglected
to state that the prize was
then turned over to charity. Due to
the financial depression the club
members agreed several months ago
to stop giving a prize every week
and in its place contribute a small
sum of money to the club treasurer,
the money to be turned over to
charity by the club member making
the highest score during the
relation of the club. The club requests
that it be known that the
money went towards benefitting the
unfortunate of the county.
