Recognition Day
Held For Students
Student Recognition Sunday
was observed by the Jerusalem-Zion
Methodist Charge. [
The Methodist Church observes
this Sunday by allowing
the young people of their
church to conduct the ehtire
morning worship service.
Growth in character, statute in
receiving responsibility and a
closer unity with their Christian
faith are three reasons
the church sponsors Student
Recognition Day, according to
the Rev. John Andrews, pastor
of the two churches.
The Methodist Church does
this in honor of the young
men and women of their
church who are attending colleges
and universities. The
church belives and encourages
all people to continue their
education after high school.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship
of each church presided.
The speakers were: Jerusalem,
Miss Jeanette Bolton of East
Carolina College, Miss Faye
Rose of Chowan College and
Mr. Fred Hicks, senior at Nor
Una High School; Miss Nancy
White of Chowan College, Mr.
Frank Mayfield and Mr. Alton
Williams, seniors at Norlina
High School.
College students who are
members of the Jerusalem
Methodist Church are: Miss
Jeanette Bolton of East Carolina
College and Miss Fayo
Rose of Chowan College.
College students who are
members of Zion Methodist
Church are: Miss Nancy White
and Mr. Gene Hatchell of
Chowan College, and Mr. Steve
Read of the University of
North Carolina.
