Stevie, Christian and Laura, of Hunts ville, Alabama, are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. W J. Hecht and Mr. and Mrs E E. Hecht. Mrs. Elizabeth Bender return i ed home on Wednesday after spending a month with her children, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Bender, in Springfield. Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rem stedt in Great Lakes, Illinois. Miss Elizabeth Hecht of New Bern has returned hame <rom Maria Parham Hospital where she was rushed last week while visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. E Hecht here. She underwent an appendectomy. Hamburger Supper Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cobb of Norlina, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Seaman and son, Marshall, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Holtzman at a ham burger supper on Saturday night in honor of Mrs. Holtz man's birthday. Later in the evening potato chips, cake and Coca-Colas were served to around 30 guests. Honors Husband Mrs. Richard Holtzman hon ored her husband on Saturday night in observance of his birthday. A hamburger supper and birthday cake was served to the following guests: Mr and Mrs. William Holtzman and daughters of Winston Salem. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. YPS Meets The Young Peoples Society of St. Paul's Lutheran Church held its regular meeting on Friday night at the Parish Hall with Mrs. Chris Holtzman as hostess. The Rev. M. E. Franke opened the meeting with pray er and scripture reading. Mr. Albert Seaman. presided over the business session. Mrs. N. L. Williams was in charge of entertainment and showed a film on , "Modern Jets." The ! society also decided to have a welner roast on August 13 at Kerr Lake. During the social hour the hostess serve ice cream, cake and soft drinks. VLC Holds Meeting The Young Lutheran Club J held its regular meeting on Sunday night at the Parish Hall with Miss Janette Rose Culpepper as hostess. The Rev. M. E. Franke opened the meet ing with prayer and led in topic discussion on. "Teen-Age Problems." George Holtzman was in charge of entertainment and showed a film on, "Modern Jets." William Seaman presided over the business session and the club decided to have a farewell party in the form of a picnic for all members who are leaving for school this fall. Professor Stanley Taylor of the University of Ohio was a Tuesday dinner guest of Grov er Shearin and visited Mrs. Ed win Stansbury that afternoon. Mrs. Clarence West and chil dren, Glenn and Garnette, and Mrs. Irving West were in Dur ham on Tuesday. W. J. Perry was admitted to Duke Hospital, Durham, on Thursday. Mrs. Perry accom panied him. Birthday Dinner Mrs. Will Thompson of Hen derson, formerly of Littleton, was honored at a birthday din ner on Sunday in observance of her 73th birthday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Thompson in Emporia, Va. The long table bore a va riety of appetizing foods and soft drinks. The table was cen tered with a three tiered birth day cake and Levi Thompson j returned thanks for the meal. I Echols Is Guest Pianist Sunday LITTLETON?Charles Echols of Nettleton, Miss., was guest pianist at the Littleton Pres byterian Church for Sunday School on Sunday morning. Following Sunday School, he presented a number of selec tions at the organ. He also played several request numbers at this time. The 23 year old organist is the son of a former Littleton Presbyterian pastor, the Rev. Joseph T. Echols and Mrs. Echols. Mr. Echols also served as pastor of the Warrenton and Gruver Memorial Presbyterian Churches at this time and Mrs. . Echols was a member of the Littleton school faculty. The Echols went to Nettleton, Miss., from here and are visiting rela tives and friends here this week Charles received his AB and BM degrees in 1959 from Bel haven College, a Presbyterian College in Jackson, Miss. He took his graduate work at the University of Texas, receiving his Master of Music degree this year. Charles has served as organ ist for seyeral churches in Miss issippi and also as a guest or ganist for numerous occasions. In Memoriam In memory of Mr Jesse Pav ton, who departed this life July 27, 1961. Members of the Second Bap tist Church, Macon, N. C., of fer this tribute in loving me mory of Mr. Jesse Payton.
