Miss Twitty Feted In Wilmington Miss Panthea Anne Twitty,) State President of the North Carolina Division, Children of the Confederacy, was honored in Wilmington on December 27 by Mrs. J. S. Crowley, Divi sion Director, assisted by Mrs. Ann Hewlett, former. Davision President, and Past President General of the Children of the) Confederacy, and Mr. Edward Ward, Division Chaplain. Mrs. Crowley entertained with a dinner party, followed by an informal party with C.I of C. and UDC members at- j tending. Mr. and. Mrs. Henry F. Twit ty and Billy Twitty accompani ed Miss Twitty to Wilmington where they were house guests of Mrs. Crowley. On Thursday the group tour ed Fort Fisher where they in spected the site of Fort Fish er, and the six large mounds and gun emplacements which marked the northern boundary of the fort across the penin sula. During the summer of 1960 work was commenced on the 180-acre tract held by the State of North Carolina under lease from the U. S. Govern ment. Underbrush was cleared from the six mounds which were used during the war as underground magazines and bomb-proofs. The mounds have been seeded and marked with interpretive signs. While in Wilmington, the Twittys went on board the U. S. S. North Carolina. The North Carolina, commissioned April 9, 1941 was outstanding in World War II, earning 12 battle stars, downed 24 Japanese planes, sank one merchantman, and bombarded nine Japanese strongholds. The battleship is a memorial to the veterans of World War II. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harris of Areola entertained the group at a dinner on Sunday. Stoneys Hold "Open House" The Rev. and Mrs. James M. Stoney and sons held "Open House" on Sunday afternoon in Emmanuel Episcopal Church Rectory from four to six o'clock for members of the church and friends of all denominations. The Rev. Mr. Stoney greeted guests and Mrs. Stoney poured coffee in the dining room. Punch was served by Ricky and Allan Stoney. Chris and Paul Stoney received in the study. Holiday appointments were used throughout the rooms. Fruit cake, tiny hot sausage rolls, potato chips with cheese dip and a variety of Christmas cookies were served buffet sytle. Friends Feted At Cocktail Party Dr. and Mrs. L. R. Rornegay and Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Als ton entertained around 100 friends at a cocktail party from five-thirty to eight o'clock at the Country Club on Friday with guests attending from Rocky Mount, Louisburg, Ox ford, Enfield, Raleigh and War renton. Christmas decorations of red poinsettas, red berries, candles and greenery were used throughout the clubhouse. Births Mr. and Mrs. L. E.
