Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Haithcock of Greensboro visited Mrs. Dowling and Mrs. C. T. Galian on Sunday. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth G. Bobo have returned to Honea Path, S. C. and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Plyler have re turned to Lancaster, S. C., af ter visiting in the Jerusalem Zion Methodist Parsonage as the guests of the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Funderburk and family. Scott Harrington of China Grove spent last weeke with his grandparents, Mr and Mrs. J. W. Mayfield. Miss Oza Gooch of Richmond is visiting Mrs. C. T. Galian and other relatives in the county. Other recent guests in the Galian home were Mrs. J. T. Wall of Lilesville and Miss Diana Thomas of Raleigh. The Rev Mr and Mrs. M. M. Hutton and Debbie and Mack, Jr., of Staunton, Va., spent several days this week with Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Davis. Mrs. John Davis and Barbara of Durham spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wig gins. Woodmansee, of West Point, Virginia. Mr. C. F. Cole of Richmond attended the marriage of Miss Lucy Davis White at the Nor Una Methodist Church last Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Riggan of Cary and Mrs. Lucile Bennett of Henderson were weekend guests of Mrs. H. F. Kelly and Josephine. The group visited Mrs. W. K. Hawks at Palmei Springs, Va., on Saturday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. B. Guilforc Hawks and Miss Evelyn Hawk; of West Nyack, N. Y., spenl last weekend with Mrs. A S Wyckoff. Mrs. M. H. Hayes o! Jones DENTIST Dial 224-1 Out Of Office Every Thursday Office In Profeasional Building Zion Church Group Meets The Zion WSCS met with Mrs. Stephen Read and Mrs Julian Farrar on Monday even ing with 13 members and two visitors present. Mrs. William Hicks, president, presided. Mrs. C. P. Rooker gave an interest report from the North Carolina Methodist Conference held in Kinston. The devo tional was led by Mrs. Stephen Read and the program was presented by Mrs. Farrar. The topic discussed was "Christ Above All.," Mrs. W. \R. Hayes will en tertain the society in August. Mrs. Mayfield Hostess At Cards Mrs. J. W. Mayfield enter tained at two tables of bridge at her home on North Street on Tuesday evening. Guest players were Mrs. Charles White and Mrs. Nat White of Warrenton and Mrs. Ed White of Drewry. High score prize was won by Mrs. B. A. Thaxton; second high went to Mrs. C. L. Hege and bingo was presented to Mrs. D. S. Wimbrow. Mrs. Nat White received the guest prize. The hostess served a sweet course to the eight players. Circle Meets At Home Mrs. Walker Mrs. M. E. Walker was hos tess to members of Circle No. 1 of the WSCS of the Norlina Methodist Church at her home on Walker Avenue on Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The program, "Christ Above All," was presented by Mrs. S. B. Rivers. Those assisting with the program were Mrs. Ruby Johnson, Pam Hege, Anne Hicks, Connie Faulk and Pam Quick. Scripture was read by the program chairman and prayer was led by Mrs. J. F. White. Mrs. W. A. Delbridge, circle leader, presided over the rou tine business session. At the conclusion of the meeting the hostess served ice cream, cookies and nuts to tha 14 present. Bible School Proves Successful The Vacation Bible School of Norlina Baptist Church proved to be one of the most successful programs the church has attempted this year. The school ran for eight days with an average attend ance of 109. During the school the children gave a total of S39.38, which went to the co operative World Mission Pro gram of Baptists. The faculty of 20 and the special committees of seven members proved that this was a church-wide effort. As a result of the school, five young people made pro fession of faith, four came to rededicate themselves, includ ing two who definitely feel that they should become for eign missionaries, and one whe came to transfer membership from another church. McManus XQed In a ceremony of beauty and dignity which took place on Saturday afternoon, June 30. j at five-thirty in the Norlina Methodist Church, Miss Lucy Davis White, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. White of Norlina, became the bride of Ensign John Upton McManus, Jr., U. S. Naval Reserve, son of Mr. and Mrs. John U. McManus of Red Springs. The Rev. J. M Parvin, pastor, of ficiated. The bride, given In marriage by her father, wore a gown of white silk organza, fashioned with a square neckline and short sleeves trimmed with Chantilly lace and fitted | bodice The skirt bore inserts of lace ending in a chapel j train. Her fingertip veil of ? illusion fell from a tiara of ' pearls, and sequins. She car 1 ried a cascade bouquet of ! white bride's roses. Miss Linda Susanne Steed of Southern Pines was maid of honor and Mrs. George Thomas Ammons of Red Springs was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Neely of Char lotte, Mrs. Luther Earl Ste gall, Jr., of Norlina and Miss Ann McManus of Red Springs, sister of the bridegroom. Mrs. Tommy Peete Davis of Yan ceyville was an honorary I bridesmaid. They all wore gowns of pink organza overj white taffeta and headpieces of pink bows, cncircled with veil They carried bouquets of mixed summer flowers. Mr McManus served his son as best man Ushers were John McManus, cousin of the groom, George T. Sammons, Sammy Thomas, Glenn Gibson, all of Red Springs, and Charles White of Norlina, brother of the bride. Mrs. White chose for her daughter's wedding a pink lace with matching accessories and Mrs. McManus wore blue lace with matching accessories. Their corsages were of white orchids. The bride is a recent grad uate of St Andrews Presby terian College, Laurinburg, and was a member of SNEA, Science Club and Mathematical Honor Society. The bride groom is a graduate of Flora McDonald College, Red Springs, a member of the Mathematical Honor Society and is with the U. S. Navy Reserve, stationed at Jackson ville, Florida, where the cou ple will reside. Cake-Cutting A cake-cutting was held on Friday evening in the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. T. M. Gupton of Norlina, for the wedding party and out-of-town guests. Mrs. Gupton poured punch from an antique crystal | bowl with a 200-year-old silver loined ladle, belonging to her aunt, Mrs. Charles F. Cole of Richmond, Va. Mrs. John Mc Vianus served the cake after the couple had cut the first traditional slice. Mtss White Honored Miss Lucy Davis White, June bride-elect, was honored it a Coke party on Saturday afternoon, June 23, at the Home of Mrs. Earl Stegall on Darden Street. Miss White was presented a cream and mgar dish and salt and pepper shakers in her chosen crystal pattern, and was also given a corsage of white pom-poms. Cokes, decorated cake squares, mints and nuts were served by the hostess. Minister Announces Service Schedule Homecoming Day will be ob served Sunday, July 8, at the Jerusalem Methodist Church. The Church School hour will begin at 10 a. m., followed by the worship service at 11 a. m., with the Rev. Donald F. Funderburk, pastor, bringing the morning message. A pic nice lunch will be shared on the church grounds following the services; those attending are invited to bring a well fill basket and participate in this time of fellowship. At the Zion Church of the Jerusalem-Zion Methodist Charge, the Church School hour will begin at 9 a. m. on Sunday. July 8. but no wor ship service will be conducted that day, due to the Jerusalem Homecoming activities. The congregation of Zion Church is invited to participate in the events at Jerusalem. On Monday evening, July 9, the Official Board of the Je rusalem Church will hold its regular monthly meeting, at 8 o'clock, at the church. The newly elected board will as sume their duties at this time and all members are urged tc be present. On Thursday, July 12, the Zion Church will sponsor a Brunswick stew sale at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Paschall. All members of the church and community and friends are invited to partici pate. Circle 2 Meet# With Mrs. White Circle No. 2 of the Woman'l Society of Christian Servic* met Monday night with Mrs R M. White, Jr., with Mrs B A. Thaxton as co-hostess. Mrs. Graham P. Mrs. W. S. Hicks gave an interesting and challenging program on "Youth," stressing the points of what the youth needs from the church and ways in which the church can help youth to grow spiritually. Routine business was pre sided over by Mrs. Grissom. During the social hour the hostesses served delicious ap ple pie a la mode to the 11 present. August hostesses will bo Mrs. John Clark and Mrs. F. D. Draffin, and Mrs. R. L. DeLoach will have charge ol the program. Jr. GA'? Meet At Stallings Home The Junior Girl's Auxiliary of the Norlina Baptist Church met Tuesday afternoon at 2 p m. at the home of their coun selor, Mrs. T. W. Stallings with eight members present. Jeanna Dean Bobbitt presid ed and presented the program "Our Star Ideals." Those as sisting her with the pro gran were Margaret Aycock, Riti Hobbs, Becky Eller, Gail Cur rie, Vickie Abbott and Vicki< Hawks.
