News & Society Items Miss Eula Allen spent the weekend in Roanoke, Va. Mrs. J. D. Finch and child ren of Oxford were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Crink ley and family on Saturday. * The Rev. Emmanuel Pe gram of Rocky Mount was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Harris. Miss Katherine Blankenship of Warrenton visited Miss Carolyn Rose Coleman of Inez during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Harris of Roxboro visited Mrs. J. C. Powell and Mrs. E. R. Davis on Sunday. Miss Rebecca King and Miss Dee Philyan of Raleigh spent the weekend here with Miss King's parents, Mr and Mis. J H King. Mrs. Zelma Benson spent | several days this week with her daughter, Mrs. E. Mrs Lula Critcher of Durham returned with them for a visit of two weeks with the Shearin family. The Rev. and Mrs. R. E. Brickhouse spent several days last week with relatives in Greensboro Mrs. Lizzie Wright of Churchill is a guest of Mrs. Sam Weldon Mr. and Mrs E. T Odom are spending this week at the Beach. Miss Polly Curtis visited friends in Williamston this week. Miss Louise Jones of Dur ham was a weekend guest of relatives here. Mrs. R D. Jones of Nash ville and Mrs. Mamie Aycock McColl of Rocky Mount visit ed relatives here on Tuesday. MRS. JOHN SARGENT WHITNEY, JR. Miss Burwell Is Wed In Episcopal Service The marriage of Miss Anne Spotswood Burwell, daughter of Mrs. John Armistead Bur-i well of Middleburg, Va., and the late Mr. Burwell, to En sign John Sargent Whitney,! Jr., U. S. N., took place I Saturday afternoon. May 19th. j The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Thomas E. Marston of Hamden, Conn., and Mr. Whitney of Evergreen, Colo. The ceremony was per formed in Trinity Episcopal Church, Upperville, Va. by The Rev Robert E. Cox, rector. A reception was given ] by the bride's mother at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Isham Keith, aunt and uncle of the bride. Given in marriage by her' brother, John Armistead Bur well, Jr., the bride wore a gown of ivory silk organza i with chapel train. Her heir loom veil was of Brussels; lace over illusion and had been worn by her mother. Returning to Warrenton from Halifax, a visit was made to Perons's Ordinary in Littleton. This old inn was built in 1750 and was recently resorcd. Gradually, through gifts of furniture of that period, it is being re furnished. An informal "coffee hour" with Mrs. William Graham Alston of Littleton was "a happy ending to a perfect day," a member said. Strickland re turned to her home on Mon day after recuperating in Warren General Hospital from a broken ankle. Macon Ladies To Sell Barbecue At Church The ladies of the Macon Methodist Church will sell barbecue plates at the church on Friday, May 24, beginning at 5:30 o'clock Adult plates will sell for $1.00 and chil-, dren plates for 50c. Dessert I will also be available for 13c. No meals will be served at the church. Proceeds will be used to send young people of the church to camp during the summer.
