AT MONOGRAM BANQUET?Pictured at top, left to right, are 12 senior boys who were presented trophies on last Thursday night. Trophies Awarded 16 Seniors During Monogram Club Banquet Laughter, good fellowship and some sober moments rill ed on last Thursday night at the annual Monogram Club Banquet held in the John Graham High School cafeteria under the sponsorship of the Warrenton Boosters Club. The laughter was largely brought about by Toastmaster H. M. Hardy, who was in fine fettle, and by the principal speaker, Coach C. William Hilderbrand of Wake Forest College, who proved to be both a humorist and enter taining speaker. The sober moments were provided by Coach Hilderbrand as he stressed the value of athletics in character building and the need for study as first rate colleges aad Universities are constantly raising their stand ards. Athletic ability alone is no longer enough, Hilder brand said; good grades are essential. Highlighting the banquet was the presentation of tro phies to 16 seniors, 12 boys and four girls, who have play ed their last games for John Graham on the football field, the basketball court, and the baseball diamond. In addi tion Troy Barrett presented a megaphone to Senior Har riet Cheek, cheer leader. The boys trophies were pre sented by Junie Drake to the 12 seniors with appropriate remarks amid much applause Receiving these trophies were Benson Aycock, Steve Clark, A. C. Collier, Rickie Ether idge, Larry Hayes, Steve Joy ner, Gilbert Mustian, Bill Perry, Phil Quails, Billy Rogers, Tommy Twitty and Robert Wells. J. Howard Daniel, with words of appreciation for the contributions of each to John Graham school, presented trophies to the four girls. A trophy Clinic Tims Listed By Heatlk Officials The eehedule of clinic* to be held at the Warren Coun ty Health Department for the of May M to May SO, was on hand for Mrs. Julia Weaver, but she was unable to be present. Following the presentation of the trophies, Sandra Jones and Sarah Ann Fuller, co captains of the basketball team, presented a gift to their coach. Miss Janice Al len. W. A. Miles, president of the Boosters Club, presided over the meeting and welcom ed the guests. Invocation was pronounced by the Rev. Troy J. Barrett. Coach Hilder brand was presented by Coach Charles E. (Preacher) Parker. Warren Teacher To Attend Workshop A. M. Ward, vocational agriculture teacher at the North Warren High School, has been selected by A. G. Bullard, State Supervisor of Vocational Agriculture, as one of sixteen teachers of vocational agriculture to par ticipate in a special two weeks workshop to be held at N. C. State College from June 10-21, for the purpose of studying high school courses in agriculture. The announcement of Ward's selection was made this week by G.v H. Wash ington, principal of the school. In addition to the sixteen agriculture teachers, the work shop will have participants from the Vocational Agricul ture Division of the Depart ment of Public Instruction and from the School of Agri culture, N. C. State College. Superintendent J. K. Peeler said of Ward's selection, "A. M. Ward is recognized as one of the best vocational agri culture teachers in the State. He will make a fine contri bution to the workshop." Local Girls Will Camp At Kerr Lake | Girl Scout Troop No. 145 : is planning to camp this | weekend at Camp Graham. iKerr Lake. j This troop is under the [leadership of Mrs. J. Boyd Davis. Others leaders who will help are Mrs. Arthur Williams, Mrs. Dixon Ward and Mrs. Charles Bowen. Phil Daniel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Daniel, and a member of Scout Troop 617, will be presented the Eagle Scout Award during special services during the worship hour. The MYF will share in the morning worship service un der the leadership of the Rev. Don Low. A special invitation is ex tended the public to attend the service by Scoutmaster Leonard Daniel and the mem bers of Tioop 617. DR. J. CARROLL TROTTER' Churchill Revival Services Scheduled Revival services will be held at Gardner's Baptist Church at Churchill from June 2 through June 9, the Rev. Raleigh Carroll, pastor, announced this week. Dr. J. Carroll Trotter, Pro j fessor of Preaching and | Speech at Southeastern Bap tist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, will be the I guest speaker. | Services will -begin each evening at 8 o'clock. The public is invited. Dr. Trotter is a native of Alabama where he graduated from West End High School and Howard College in Birm ingham. The map competition is a learning activity in grade 8, the grade level in which North Carolina History, Geogra phy and Government are studied. PHOTO BY ALLEN KINO White said that there were some 75 winners from all over the county. The competition is an annual event, and this year's contest ended on May 1. About 15 teachers and 500 students participated in this year's event. , "The teachers and students are to be commended for their fine work on this project," White said. Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, with a Th.M. degree in 1946 and with a Th.D. in 1951. Dr. Trotter has held pastorates in Kentucky and Alabama. Mrs. Whitford said this was the largest Seal Sale ever reported in Warren County. Howard Daniel, treasurer, gave a complete financial re port showing a balance of $468.95 in the treasury. He also presented the 1963-64 budget, which was adopted. Mrs. Whitford gave a re port on the work of the or ganization during the past year and also reported on the planned work with the Health Department and the Hospital. She also showed a film on emphysema. Before turning the chair over to the new president, who adjourned the meeting, retiring president Turner thanked the group for the support given him during his term of office. Present at the meeting were W. L. Turner, Scott Gardner, Selby Benton, Clyde Whitford, Howard Daniel, F. P. Whitley, Miss Emily Bal lnnger and Mrs. Clyde Whit ford.
