Mrs. Fred Martin of lakeland, Fla. is visit ing Mrs. W. 0. Reed this week. Mrs. Barbara Allen and children, Sean and Michelle, John Davis, and Buck Wiggins, Stacey and Ben of Durham visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wiggins over the weekend. Mrs. Grade Tingle of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Jackie Matthews and son, Barry, and Mrs. Lynn Hunter of Greens boro and Mrs. Sunny Ann Wade and daughter, Barbara, of Grafton, Va. were weekend guests of Mrs. Selma Rooker. Mr. and Mrs. Wildon Price and son, Mark, of Kinston and Mrs. Sudie Coleman attended the wedding of Jessica Denise Dillard and Mr. and Mrs. Van Earl Coleman of Norlina an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Janice Ellen, to Paul LoNigro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick LoNigro of los Angeles, Calif. Miss Cole man is a senior at Meredith College in Raleigh and will graduate in December with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology. She is currently employed by the United States Environmental Protection Agen cy in Research Triangle Park. LoNigro graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's Degree in environmental design. He is currently employed by Envirotech of Raleigh. An August 4 wedding is planned for 2 p.m. in the Meredith College Chapel. A reception will im mediately follow the ceremony in the Chapel Com mons Room. James Anderson Cross on Saturday afternoon at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dillard, near Littleton. Those visiting Mrs. Gladys Perkinson during the past week were Mrs. Myrtice Perry, Mrs. May West and Mrs. Bettie Rue Pittman of Littleton, Mrs. Sophie Browning and Lizzie Clary of Roa noke Rapids, Miss Susan Perkinson of Cary and Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Myrick of Vir ginia Beach, Va. Draffin, Betn and Chuck of Raleigh spent the weekend with Mrs. Mar tha Draffin. Mrs. Ada Flippin of Colonial Heights, Va. and Mrs. Eva Woodfin of Fairfax, Va. visited their mother, Mrs. Myr tle Fleming on Wednes day. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bissett and family of Bailey visited Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hawks over the weekend. Visitors of Mrs. Myr tle Fleming on Mother's Day were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gard of Virginia Beach, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Haddock of Cary, Louis Baugh and Mrs. Peggy Colgin of Richmond, Va. and Mrs. Ann Spence, Elizabeth and Angelia, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Fleming and Tasker and Mr. and Mrs. Sol Fleming, Jr., allofWarrenton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weaver and children of Greensboro visited Mr. and Mrs. Ira Weaver and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Hicks over the weekend. Accepted Cynthia Yvonne King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. King, Jr., has been accepted in the Medical Careers Development Program of Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest Uni versity. The program begins May 27 and concludes Jul, i. Cynthia is a junior biology major at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill. Lutheran Women Have Gathering The regular monthly meeting of St. Paul's Lutheran Women's Missionary League of Ridgeway convened in the parish hall of the church at 7:30 p. m. on Thursday, May 9, with Mrs. Jeanette Bender, hostess, and Mrs. Annie Bender, president, pre siding. For the group study, Pastor Rathjen selected "The Language of Liturgy," a Bible study on the way we worship. Pastor Rathjen stated that the language of Lutheran Liturgy is a borrowed language — borrowed from the Scriptures and from the earliest worship of the Christian Church. Members read and probed relevant scrip tures from which por tions of the Lutheran Liturgy are taken. Mrs. Jeanette Bender, co-chairwoman of the Spring Buffett Supper Committee, suggested the several food items which the committee proposes to serve when the buffet supper is held June 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. Each of the League members present volunteered to prepare and contribute a dish or dishes for the supper. Mrs. Lillian Kilian was named member-in charge of remembering the sick and shut-in members and friends of the congregation. Pastor Rathjen presented an assort ment of tracts which had been received, which will be displayed in the narthex of the church for the benefit of those who wish to take one or more, and which may be used by the league members in fur thering their mission work. The meeting adjourn ed with singing the League Hymn, stating the League Pledge, and praying the Lord's Prayer, after which the group enjoyed a social hour, as Mrs. Jeanette Bender served refresh ments. Hostess for the June meeting will be Mrs. Charlotte Stepusin. Vaughan Honor Lists Released Mrs. Shirley H. White, principal of Vaughan Elementary School has announced the Princi pal's List and Honor Roll for the fifth grading period as follows: Fourth grade: Prin cipal's List — Robin Lamb, Lakesha Palmer and Valarie Sink. Fourth grade Honor Roll — Evelyn Kinlaw, Garvin Powell, Melissa Reid, Gloria Tucker, Anthony Williams, Elroy Fitts, Kenneth Smith and Derrick Massenburg. Honor Roll: fifth grade - Chris Adcock, Lacresia Brewer, Brooke Martin, Sean Moore and Tamu Shaw. Principal's List: sixth grade — Beth Pierce, Porando Taylor and Lorenzo Wilkins. Guests touring the Warren County Senior Citizens Center on Franklin Street in Warrenton during an open house Monday are shown enjoying refreshments courtesy of center volunteers. (Staff Photo) Macon Woman's Club Has Awards Banquet Monday evening, May 6, the Macon Woman's Club held its annual Awards Banquet at the Rafters Steak House in Warrenton. Hors d'oeuvres and tomato juice were served to the twelve club members and 10 guests present. The group was called to dinner by Mrs. C. E. Thompson. Mrs. K. G. Copley returned thanks for the meal and the group enjoyed a meal of barbecued chicken, potatoes augratin, peas, Jello fruit salad, rolls, coffee and iced tea. Mrs. Elsie Weldon of Warrenton was guest speaker for the evening. She told many humor ous stories including a number of "half-truths" relating to many of the members and guests present. Incoming officers for 1985-1986 were installed by Mrs. L. 0. Robert son, Jr. corresponding secretary of the N. C. Federation of Women's Clubs. Officers install ed were: Mrs. G. W. King, president; Mrs. C. E. Thompson, vice president; Mrs. Jon Strother, secretary; Mrs. Earl Riggan, corresponding secre tary; Mrs. J. Stegall, treasurer; Mrs. K. G. Copley, chaplain; Mrs. L. R. Harris, historian and Mrs. A1 Fleming, awards chairman. Mrs. C. E. Thompson expressed her grati tude for the cooperation and encouragement from everyone through out the past two years of her term as president. Mrs. A1 Fleming, awards chairman, presented club awards to members for work during the past year. Award winners were: Arts Award, Mrs. L. R. Harris; Congeniality Award, Mrs. Jon Strother; Leadership Award, Mrs. C. E. Thompson; and Club woman of the Year, Mrs. Lynn Henry. The meeting was ad journed and the club will have three months' vacation before meeting again in August.
