Philmore Willips Heretofore I’ve defended the country dames but now I’ve a word for the lovesick fellow who doesn’t seem to be able to get along with the girl”. “Just what kind of boy do the girls like?’’ I asked a bru nette. “What kind of boys do I like?” she queried reflectively. After a moment’s hesitation she assumed a more wide-awake pose and answered, ‘First of alt he must be a blonde.” “Tall and slim,” she added. “Third, he must be nice,” Nice' had been used to describe anything; from a cave man to a bashful coun try boy. I needed to be enlightened as to the meaning. He must have enough money to take me to shows, must dress neat ly and be really nice. You know what I mean.” I did. From her description, her most! recent crush fills the bill satisfac- • torily, but if some of you fellows l think that you’d fit the description a bit better, I promise to introduce, you to her. The young man drove up in the front of the house, parked his car, climbed out and entered the house. (By the way, he wasn’t at home). A young lady appeared from some where toward the back of the house. and she was heard to say, “Hello Sweet Man” in her sweetest tone. There was an audience so the gentleman got a bit pink behind his ears. The girl went swiftly into the hall and took him in her arms. Not the man but the new puppy.' It was time to feed him. Until rain falls again. I’ll be rambling along. Rolesville News “I don’t like to preach in es where there are no children,” j said Rev. R. L. Rocky Cross News The dry weather we had in June has been followed by rain in July and all crops and gardens and grass have made a great improve ment. Some people say they believe their tobacco is going to get too big. Our friend L. A. We are havng trouble with water since we have had so much rain in the ditch we are digging is only 5 feet deep so guess the water will soon run out. The Thursday evening holiday that the merchants in Spring Hope observe proved to be a little harm ful to Bullocks Cash Market. Im mediately after he closed last Thursday three colored boys went in at the back end of the house but some white man saw them and re ported it to the police who broke them away before they had time to get much booty. So they were tak en down to Nashville and given lodging in a nice brick building called a jail. I understand that they found about four dollars in money but didn’t learn whether they got any goods. Some of the women in this com munity are preparing to have some thing to eat next winter. Mrs. Eli jah Brantley has canned and pre served 85 quarts of black berries and huckleberries, and she nlans to can about 150 more of peaches, apples, beets and cucumbers. The women, or least a part of them, have robbed the birds of their menu; they have picked black ber ries during the day and scratched red bugs at night.
