Stewart and family of Fairfield, Hyde County, were in Zebulon for a short while Monday afternoon. Mr. Stewart was en route to the Perachers’ School at Meredith; Mrs. Stewart and the children to visit relatives farther west in the state. I Miss Garnet Batchelor of Rocky j Mount is spending some time with her sister Mrs. Lee Roy Harris. J. Howard Bunn, who has been teaching in Ferrells School, Nash | County, has been elected principal of this school for the coming year. Mrs. Garland Godwin arrived last week for a visit with her parents,; Mr. and Mrs- S. J. Ferbee. Mr. God win has been transferred by his firm to Hagerstown, Md. and Mrs. Godwin will go from here to her new home. Mrs. Craven Brown of Durham spent several days recently here l with her sister, Mrs. Allan Pippin,; also visiting her parents, the W. H. | Winsteads at Wakefield. Mr. and Mrs. Vester Brantley of Franklinton were here during the weekend visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Gardner and little daughter of Pine Tops were guests of the Willard Whites, also visiting other relatives here on Sunday. Miss Annie Dizor of Durham ar rived Sunday to spend her vacation j with her mother, Mrs. D M. Dizor., Miss Grace Coltrane after a two weeks visit with her parents here, has returned to New \ork City to continue the study of music. Dr. J. F. Coltrane went to Greens boro last Sunday to visit his moth er, Mrs. N. E. Coltrane. Rev. J. W. Bradley has returned from a visit to relatives in the western part of the state Rev. A. A. Pippin and Rev. Theo. B Davis went to Raleigh Monday to attend the day’s sessions of the Preachers’ School at Meredith .Col lege. Miss Jocelyn House was among the number making first honor roll during the spring semester at Mer edith College, where she wa* a member of the junior class. ■ ■ “ * Friends here are interested in the announcement of the marriage on last Friday of Miss Mary Frances Cockrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Cockrell of Wilson, to Mr. James Quimby Wallace Jr., of Wil son The Cockrells lived in ’Zebu lon before moving to Wilson. Miss Rebecca Horton has return ed home from a visit with her cous in, Miss Janie Lee Jeffreys, in Johnston county. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Glover, who are in the States from China, with their daughter, Betsy Jane Glover, 1 and Nancy Leu Rose of Fremont i are visiting in the home of the IM. D. Chamblees. Mrs. Glover is Mrs. Chambiee’s sister, and Nancy Lou is her niece. Mr. and Mrs Connie Gay are on a motor trip trough the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, also visiting the caverns and other points of inter est. Remodeling has begun on the up per story of the Zebulon Drug Co. building. The addition of windows and other repairs will make avail able desirable space. Remodelling and repairing of the A. D. Antone home has been be gun. At least one room will be added with a bathroom and other improvements. Syrians in this section are mak ing extensive preparations for the Marahjan to be held in Raleigh on Sunday and Monday. This is a ra cial celebration and attracts wide attention among the nationality. Miss Evelyn Antone is a member of the committee on arrangement. Miss Dorothy Williams of Wilson spent last weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Williams of near Zebulon. • Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Williams of Clover, Va., is spending this week here | with her daughter, Mrs. C- G. Weathersby. C. G. Weathersby has gone to j Tifton, Ga., where he will be for some time working in the interest of the tobacco market. Mrs. A. R. House was hostess to the Wednesday Afternoon Club in their regular meeting last week. Dr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Flowers and Charles Flowers, Jr., spent the past weekend at Virginia Beach. Miss Eunice Outlaw and her roommate during the past year at Meredith College spent the week end at Virginia Beach. Dr and Mrs. G. S. Barbee were among the number from here at tending the June German at Rocky Mount. Mrs. W. D. Spencer has returned home after undergoing a tonsillec tomy and an appendectomy at Rex Hospital. I Mrs. H. C. Wade was hostess to, the Double-Eight Bridge Club on Thursday evening of last week. Mrs. M. M. Faison entertained the members of her Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club this week. Miss Wilma Phillips is home from j I W. C. T. C. at Cullowhee and visit ed this week in the home of her i brother, R L. Phillips. L • Late reports as to the condition -of W. D. Ellis are encouraging and hopes are held for his recovery. Bride-Elwt Honored Mrs. Donald Stallings and Miss Marion Whitlock were joint hos tesses at the home of the former last week, honoring Miss Beth Kemp whose marriage took place on the Thursday following. Four tables were arranged for bridge, Mrs. Norman Screws winning high score and Miss Ann Kemp low. The guest of honor was given a linen luncheon set. A color scheme of green and white was observed in appointments and refreshments. Miss Stell Hostess Miss Ruby Stell was hostess at bridge on Thursday and Saturday afternoons of last week. On each occasion four tables were placed for the game. On Thursday, Mrs. W. C. Campen won high score, with Mrs. Griffin of Wendell winning for out-of-town guests. On Satur day Miss Cheatham of Durham was guest of honor, while Mise Ca trina Gill won high score. ALLEN-KEMP The wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Kemp of Zebulon to Mr. James Edgar Allen of New York City and Wilson, N. C. was solemiz ed Thursday morning at 10:30 o’- clock in the Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. James McDowell Dick, rector of the church, officiated in the presence of relatives and a small group of intimate friends of the couple The bride and bridegroom entered the church together. The bride wore a dress of navy chiffon, with white gloves and other accessories of Navy. Her corsage was of white j roses and valley lilies. Mrs. Allen is the oldest daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Kemp of Zebulon. She is a graduate of Meredith College and received her A. B. degree in Library science from the University of North Caro lina. She has taught in the Wake lon Graded School for the past three years. Mr. Allen is the only 3on of Mr. and Mra. Willard S. Allen of New York City. He attended the Univer sity of North Carolina and is now connected with the Imperial Life Insurance Company in Wilson. Immediately following the wed ding the couple left for a wedding trip to Washington and New' York after which they will be at home in Wilson N C. ABERNATHY-DENTON On Saturday, June 12, Mias Pat tie Rue Denton was married to Mr. Clatiee H. Abernathy of Nashville, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. J. W. Bradley, pastor of the bride, in the Methodist church at nine o’clock in the morning. The church was decoraf?d with tall bas kets of flow'ers in pastel shades. Burt Jenkins of Nashville sang tw’o solos with Miss Jocelyn Horse at the piano. The bride wore a costume of biege with brown accessories and a shoulder corsage of rosebuds. After a wed ding trip to Asheville and other points the couple w'ill be at home : in Nashville. PARTY HONORING HILDRETH PARKER Mrs. Ruric Gill was hostess Fri day evening at a lovely lawn party ! in honor of Miss Hildreth Parker, bride-elect of July. Bingo was played at five tables, I prizes being awarded Mrs. J. C. Debnam and Miss Lois Eddins. The honoree was the recipient of mis cellaneous show'er from the guests Iced punch was served with wafers following the games- The hostess was assisted in serving by Mrs. Zollie Culpepper and Mrs. Willa Marshbum. The Texaco Service station oper ated for a number of years by Mr. Combs has been taken over by * Willis Strickland. Willis says he is there to serve his friends and the public generally. He also states that he does not think a service station should be open during Sun day School and church hours on Sunday and that his place will be closed each Sunday morning from the time Sunday School begins till church is over. We are sure the church people of Zebulon especially appreciation this decision of Willis. And he will not lose by observing church hours.
