Page Six Local Farmer Gets In Wrong Church (Continued from Page 4) Raleigh meeting, so off he drove to the capital city. He arrived in plenty of time for the meeting, but, doggonit, he forgot which hotel it was to be held in. He found a parking place near the Sir Walter, so that was the first place he hunted. Sure enough, tftere was a lobby full of politicos. Soon he found himself in a room full of people, obviously a political meeting. He was invited to have a seat—which he did. Everything went swell. The meeting rolled along famously. Finally the time came for testi monials on the merits of the can didate. “Mr. Blank,” said the chairman, “Let’s hear how things are down Little River way.” Our friend, the farmer, rose. “We have a good man,” he said, “and we’re going to elect him gov ernor.” Applause greeted this an nouncement. “Yessir,” he continued, “He’s going to make us a good govern or, too.” More applause from the assem bly. “Why,” exclaimed the farmer, warming up the occasion, “our man has done more for the farmer during his term of office than anybody else ever has!” A deep silence fell over the room. The farmer looked around at the embarrassed group, won dering hat he had done wrong. Finally the chairman rose. “Uh, Mr. Blank,” he said. “Are you sure you’re at the right meet ing?” The Little River Township far mer quickly found out that he was in the midst of a Johnson-for- Governor rally. With no hesita tion, he made a rapid departure. “And I felt so bad about it,” he told us later, “that I didn’t even go to the meeting that was held for Mr. Scott!” This, That and the Other (Continued from Page 4) If you will read the prophecy of Ezekiel as a whole, not merely the passages selected for Sunday school lessons, you will find along with a lot you don’t understand some striking verses. For instance: When Ezekiel was commanded to go unto the rebellious Israelites taking God’s message,, he was to speak in such away that whether they listened or refused to listen, they should know there had been a prophet among them. And he was told not to be afraid “though briers and thorns be with thee and thou dost dwell among scorpions.” He was also told he was being sent to a people impudent and hard hearted. No wonder he said “I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit.” But he went. Whenever I am especially dis couraged over present day condi tions it helps me to go to the Old Testament and read again of the lives of the prophets. My own backbone stiffens with thinking of their bravery and my love of my country is deepened by their de votion to their own. Let’s put at least as much time on Ezekiel, Haggai, and Zechariah this month as we do on the comics. Petition Circulated On Road Project * A petition asking that the state take over maintenance of a coun try road was circulated around Zebulon yesterday by G. S. Lock leair and in a short period of time over a hundred names were ob tained. The road, which runs from near Geo. Duke’s cotton gin north of Hopkins Cross Roads for a distance of over two miles west toward Highway 264, has been maintained by farmers living along the route since it was built. For years the mail carrier from Zebulon has traveled this route, and until recently when the route was changed, the school bus also went along this road. Last week the farmers who orig inated the petition spent over S3OO for grading and nearly $l5O for drain pipe. With the road in good condition, they believe road auth orities will be more likely to agree to its maintenance by the state.
