Puryear There were 188 present for Sun day School. Flowers were placed in the church by Mrs. Oma Ray Sunday. The deacons met Wednesday evening at the community center. The Lizzie Winston Circle met Friday p.m. with Mrs. James Buchanan The devotional was giv en by Mrs. Buchanan and prayer by Mrs. T. Y. Puryear. Mrs. Amos Dean gave an interesting program on, “A Sure Road to National Downfall.” Mrs. Dean then led in prayer and also Mrs. D. L. Martin. The hostess served ice cream, cookies and toasted nuts. Visitors at the S. T. Whitakers Sunday p.m. were the Herman Faucettes of Raleigh and Mr. and Mrs. James Liles of Wendell. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Moody of Mitchell’s Mill and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jeffreys of Raleigh vis ited the J. B. Carters Sunday p.m. the Stanley Atkinsons of Wendell called Sunday night. Mrs. W. M. Hood spent Saturday and Sunday nights with Mrs. Alice Hood. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hood went to Wallace Monday to stay with their granddaughter, Mrs. Joe Wood. Mrs. Hughie Hinnant is at thd home of her daughter, Kila Mae, in Raleigh since she was released from the hospital. She spent the weekend at home. Stell, of Mitchell’s Mill, Mrs. Ma ble Williford and daughter, San dra, and the A. O. Puryears and son, Lawrence, Mrs. Vera Rhodes, Mrs. Alice Hood, Mrs. Hettie Vause, Mrs. J. C. Carter, the Joe Carters of Raleigh, and T. Y. Pur years, Jr. and family. Mr. Charlie Thorne of Raleigh had Monday dinner with his grandmother, Mrs. T. Y. Puryear. Mr. Herman Wall is in the Ver eran Hospital in Durham. Mr. Dewitt Thomas and Miss Shirley Hinnant were united in marriage August 14, at Hephzibah Church. The T. Y. Puryear, Jr. family visited the Paul Allens near Rol esville Sunday night. Mr-, and Mrs. Worth Horton and son, Jerry, and the Oscar Kings of Raleigh and Mrs. Pattie Lou Yancey of Eagle Rock called on the Sherwood Hortons recently. Mrs. Odell Johnson of near Ral eigh spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. Earl Horton. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thorne announce the birth of a daughter, Alice Gayle, August 19, at Mary Elizabeth Hospital. Mrs. Thorne was formerly Miss Melba Hudson of Fuquay Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carter of Ral eigh spent Tuesday at the T. Y. Puryears. The teachers of Hephzibah Church surprised Ann Scarboro at a party before leaving for school. Mrs. Oris Horton and Mrs. Al len McSwain yisited Dr. and Mrs. Roy G. Smarr in Columbia, S. C. recently. While there they visited Allen McSwain at Ft. Bragg. He is with the National Guard. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sharp and children of Virginia visited their parents, the Lennie Liles. Mr. G. L. Puryear and son, Ed ward, of Corinth visited the T. Y. Price taught the the Young Ladies Class Sunday in the absence of Mrs. Ervin Fuller. Mr. Ernest Cooke is very ill in Rex Hospital. Mrs. M. B. Alford is sick. Mr. and Mrs. J. Ray Nowell and Mrs. Mary Greene attended the funeral of a relative Sunday at Creedmoor.
