In ?ate of the .kill and :ii !a-l ry "f a 'Utitei foitcrs, they liavo in", or made a lad wiiicli did not have one- or mure vulnerable spots. Some of the products d their handicraft may seem perfect to the untrained eye, but will find that each one, like Achilles, has something lackinrr in its armor. Perhaps the feat ures of good treasury note ivhieh coun terfeiters have found it most difficult to imitate are the two blue silk threads which run lengthwise through them. Iioetor Iirumni'Ond then showed tie reporter a counterfeit two dollar bill which bad a single thread running lengthwise through its centre. "This is the only bad bill that I ever saw with a Silk thread in it. Kven this has only one thread in it, instead of two so it would not be dangerous to a skilled teller. 1 have never heard of more than two other bills like this "tie. It is easy to see that the counterfeit spiit this note, put iti this thread and then pasted the two part together again. The frayed edges showed that. Tie' fel low must have been very stupid not to know that genuine money lia two threads instead of one. An expert can easily tell when a bill has been split in two and pasted together again, so the silk threads would not deceive him." Marvels Made of Milk. "The first food of man" has been put to manv uses, and converted into many forms by human ingenuity, but its lat est application is perhaps the most re markable. An inventor has just taken out a patent to protect a substitues for bone or celluloid and its ma ten ill which is to constitue ti.o substance is pro duced from milk. Casein tiie solids in mik are in the first place reduced to a partly gelatinous condition by means of borax or ammonia, and then it is mixed with mineral salt dissolved in ai'id or water, which liquid is subse quently evaporated. The method of procedure is to place the casein in a suitable vessel and in corporate under beat the borax with it, the proportions being ten kilograms of borax, dissolved in six litres of water. When the casein becomes changed in appearance the water is drawn off, an-l the residue, while still uf the consisten cy of melted gelatine, one kilogram of mineral salt, held in solution of three litres of water, is added. Almost any of the salts of iron, lead, tin, zinc, cop per or other mineral which are soluabie in acid may be used. When the mix ture is effected the solid mat ter is found separated from the greater portion of the acid and water and then drawn off. Next the solid matter is first subjected to great pressure to drive out all possi ble moisture, and then to evaporation under great beat to remove any remain ing moisture. The resulting product is called "lactites," and can be moulded into any desired form. J3y the admixt ure of pigment or dyes any color may be imparted to it, but the creamery white color natural to the substance is the most beautiful, being a very close imitation of ivory. Combs, billiard balls, brush backs, knife handles, and all other articles for which ivory, bone, or celluloid are employed, can be made of this new product of milk. The Number Seven in Hie Bible. (n the seventh d;,.v Ood ended his work. On the seventh month Noah's ark touche 1 ground. Jn seven days a dove was sent. Abraham pleaded seven times for Sodom . Jacob mourned seven days for Jos eph. On the seventh day of the seventh month the children of Israel fasted seven days and remained seven days in their tents. Every seven years the land rested. Every seventh year the law was read to the peofile. In the destruction of Jericho, seven persons bore seven trumpetsseven days. On the seventh day they surrounded the walls seven times, and at the end of the ' seventh round the walls fell. Solomon was seven years building the Temple, and fasted seven days at its dedication. In the tabernacle were seven lamps. The golden candlesticks had seven branches. Naaman went and washed seven times in the river Jordan.
