It is a saying of our people trite with urje that North Carolina ever makes an honorable history, but never writes it. To excuse dereliction in that regard, "Esse quam videri" was recently adopted as the Statcs's motto. However culpable we may have lectvat an earlier period in tailing to write the sin cf today is a failure to read that which is written. We venture to suggest what we believe would be of set-vice to the State at large and cause those who act upon it to personally thank us for the suggestion. Iiiiv, ami having bought, read 'Xorth Carolina 17S0-S1'' by Judge Schenck. The late Governor Scales, than whom North Carolina had no more devo ted a son, wrote of this book that it was "a noble and complete vindication of the N. C. militia who fought at the battle of Guilford." and that it showed that "these men fought bravely and most ef fectively, for the cause of American In dependence.'' Judge Schenck's book is not only a very complete history of the campaign and battle of Guilford Court House, but contains also an admirable resume of 'he occurrences of 1780 and 171, the most "eventful years by far of the Revolutionary history of our tate. It is another trite saying that North Carolinians seldom read their own history when written, and that, in times, past at least, it was but little taught in onr schools. Some proof as to the reading may be found in the tact that our book seller, Mr. Henry nail, procured a!vjt a dozen copies of Judge Schenck's book, for sale, but after much advertising, and some canvassing, he sold but one copy, and was compelled to return the remain ifT to the author. This is in keeping the experience elsewhere of other wi ofM.C. History, very few of i afford tc write for nothing. write, whom fVnning the 10th of 4 Big Pony August. Thirty-Five Baptized at Once. Rev. W. W. Lewis, of Core Creek, Carteret county, assisted by Rev. B. G. Britain, of Pollockrville has just conclu ded what we believe is the most, success ful revival ever held in Pamlico County. The meetings were in Mount Zion Free Will Baptist churc1' near Vandemere. They held a week and a day, commencing ou Saturday night. They resulted in forty-three"additions to the church: thirty-three of these were baptized at one time, yesterday morning. The week immediately preceding this; Mr. Lewis had ud in conducting a meeting unaided in Bethany church of Pamlico county. This meeting resulted in seven additions to the church.
