Pull out the hair grease and roll up the
cigarette packs for the Sha Na Na concert on
Thursday. April 25 in Carmichael
Auditorium. The 10-member group
recreates the Fifties in song and style with
their siicked-back hair, leather jackets and
cigarettes rolled up in t-shirt sleeves.
Sha Na Na achieved international
prominence after their Woodstock concert
and American and European tours. The
group is what one critic called, "a splish
splash celebration of rock and roll "
The Pointer Sisters
Anita. Bonnie. Ruth and June, better
known as the Pointer Sisters., bring their
campy clothes and unique singing style to
Carmichael Wednesday. March 27.
The sisters began singing together in the
West Oakland. Calif.. Church of God.
Gospel hymns as well as the blues of B.B.
King and Bessie Smith influenced them.
Their songs range from hard driving soul to
cool bebop and scat. They've sung with Taj
Mahal and Dave Mason and have appeared
on the Tonight and Flip Wilson shows.
The Mac
Frampton Triumvirate
The Mac Frampton Triumvirate performs
Sunday. Jan. 20 in Memorial Hall.
Frampton. a Chester. S.C.. native, received
the Bronze medal in the Van Cliburn
International Piano Competition in 1969.
but his music includes jazz, pop and ragtime
as well as classical and semi-classical music.
Tickets for the performance are now on sale
at the Union desk for $2.
Marcel Marceau
His body has been compared to a finely
tuned instrument he's been called the best
mime artist in the world.
On Monday, March 4. the French
performer Marcel Marceau will appear in
Memorial Hall. He is best known for his
lonely clown figure with the white face who
captures the essence of man with physical
and facial expression.
As Walter Kerr says. "To ask for such
perfection would be presumptuous. You can
onlv stare at it. believe it and be thankful."
Russ Kirkpatrick
"He can charm an audience silly just by
being his old magnetic sell. This critic's
statement sums up the opinion of those who
have seen versatile Russ Kirkpatrick
perform. His voice ranges three and one half
octaves, but besides singing, he writes and
acts. Kirkpatrick played Jesus in Jc.u.s
Christ Superstar and has performed with the
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Badfingcr. the New
York Rock ensemble and Bread.
Kirkpatrick will perform in Memorial Hall
Thursday. Jan. 31.
The Hovard Roberts Chorale
The Howard Roberts Chorale brings its
dynamic talents to Memorial Hall Tuesday.
Feb. 5. The program traces black music from
the gospels of the slaves to the chants of the
Zulus to calypso sounds. The Chorale
features Ell- Mitchell, described as a regal
woman "who just about explodes with
energy as she belts out the musical spirit of
Black America."
Mission Mountain Wood Band
For some fine foot-stompin' music, the
Mission Mountain Wood Band comes to

bluegrass fare with other musical elements.
Songs range from Old Mac Donald Had a

in numerous clubs and have been on the CBS
