The committee has asked the Army. Corps of Engineers to build a connecting road from Pea Ridge' Road, which will be partially inundated if the B. Everett Jordan Dam's reservoir is filled with water, to the nearby Farrington Road in eastern Chatham County. The race will begin at 2 p.m. at the new Elam Church on Pea Ridge Road and run north for 5,000 meters through some of the cleared land that may be inundated by the reservoir, and then back to the church. , To get to the race from Chapel Hill, runners should drive south on U.S. 15 501 and turn left on S.R. 1012 one mile south of Pittsboro. After going 8.3 miles on 1012, they should turn left on U.S. 1, and two miles later they should turn left on Pea Ridge Road. Registration for the race is $3.50 until the race. Runners can register at Phidippides Athlete's Footwear & Accessories in University Square. By KATHY MORRILL Staff Writer For those of you who enjoy those wild and wacky televised battles of the network stars, stay tuned for something even more spectacular the battle of the Budweiser College Supersports airing live Saturday in Duke's Wallace Wade Stadium. Starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until about 5 p.m., the competition will feature 13 teams from across the state. Schools participating in the event include ECU, N.C. State, Duke, Wake Forest, UN C-G and Appalachian. Under the management of Jeffrey Fenyves and two assistant coaches. Lonnie Buff and Kevin Haberle, the Carolina "Belles and Balls" team features Daryl Bradshaw, Dwayne Simmons, Rob Jones, Mike Elliott, Judith Shumate, Janis Matson, Celeste Ford and Jane May. "The team is really dedicated," said Cindy Norris. member of the Tri-Delta sorority. "The team members really have their sights set very high and they deserve to win." Each team will compete in six areas volleyball, 880 relay, round-of-Bud (in which the participants throw empty beer cans into a large steel barrel), obstacle course, team frisbee relay race and tug-of-war. "Everyone is invited and encouraged to come to the competition Saturday," Norris said. "There isn't any charge, and the team would love the support." The team that wins the state competition will go to the regionals and compete with teams from Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The winning regional team will continue on to the national competition to be held at Daytona Beach, Fla., during spring break. Although the event has been held previously, this is the first year Carolina has participated.
