Critic of World’s
Fair Labor Resigns
NEW YORK, June 19.—Jay Down
er, head of the New York World’s fair
amusement control board and a critic
of union labor tactics at the exposi
tion, has resigned.
Downer said today he asked to be
relieved because his duties in lining
up the play area had been completed.
He had voluntarily continued his work
since expiration of his contract on
May 8, he said.
Downer in an address last Tuesday
asserted that union ’abor had taken
the attitude of a “tiger afier the first
taste of blood,” usint' tactics with
some concessionaires that had “bled
them white."

HOSTS TO ATTEND SOUTH
CAROLINA CONVENTION
BEAUFORT, S. C., June 19.—C. E.
Blume, chairman of the Convention
Committee arranging for the South
Carolina State Federation of Labor’s
annual meeting to be held here be
ginning June 30, says everything is in
readiness on his end of the line, and
urges all labor people to attend the
meeting. “Come on down, the water
is fine,” reads the invitation from
Mr. Blume. He further states that
all business interests, the Chambei
of Commerce, the city and county
officials, are working hand in hand
with local labor in making prepara
tions for the convention.
