Our readers will doubtless find some irregularities in The Democrat this wek. Wo beg their indulgence until we can get straight in our new quarters. The tearing down and moyine of a newspaper outfit is not child's play at all; and all irregularities are due to the unavoidable confusion in the office consequent upon moving. Many matters of news haye escaped our notice, but we are quite sure our readers will excuBe us under the circum- stances. Addttionl facts. Just as we went to press last week we learned the follow ing additional facts concerning the late Stephen Andrews: He was born m South ampton county. Va-, in 1826, and at the age of 22 moved to this county, where with the exception of a short time he resided until his death, pursuing the occupation of farming at which he was successful. He was twice married and left six sons. At the time of his death he was a member of his township school committee. To our Correspondents. The Democrat wishes to thank its corres pondents for last year for their kind services in sending the news from their respective communities. They rendered us very great assistance in giving our readers the news. We desire that all of our correspon dents who will furnish us the news on the same terms as last year will at once notify us by a news letter. And we thank them in advance for the favor. Moved to town. Several families have moved to town this year, but The Democrat does not know of all. Among those who have recently moved in we note Mess J. W. Leggett and G. C Weeks. Mr. Leggett comes from Martin county. He is a good citizen, brings an interesting family and The DEMOCRAT joins the public in welcoming Mr. Leg gett and family to town. They are indu ced to come to get the benitit of the good schools here. Mr, Weeks comes from near Braswell's. He is well known here, is a good citizen and recivCs the warm welcome of all our people both for him?elf and his pleasant family. He also comes for tne benifit of the good schools here. Others have come to town but we do not now recall them. Kperlal labeling. A special meeting of Tbe County Board of Education Will bo held in Halifax on Monday, 16th, inst. Highest Price For Furs by Jos. Stern. OUR PULPITS. Sunday, January 7th. EPISCOPAL church. Services were held it the old Episcopal church Sunday and the rector preached from Matt, 2-2: "Saying Where is ha that is born King of the Jewt-? for we have seen his star in the et and are come to worship rioi." This star, led the wise men of the east to Christ, was not like the stars we see above U3 at right for it shone In the day as well a the night. It was a miracle sent to lead men to the Savior. When the wise men saw it they believed and sought Him. We will not have a star to lead ug on, but God has furnished other ways and means, if we would but see and bear and heed; lor Christ is a light, "a light unto the Gentiles" and God's will and ways, "whose ways are ways of pleas antness anJ whose pathsare of peace, "are revealed to us iu the Bible, wh; 6e pure teaching we have only to iollow and we will reach Christ just as surely as di i the wise men of the east led by a star. BAPTIST CHURCH The pastor did not preach a sermon but gave a review of the church's work for last year, including a statement of the present membership, the additions to the church and the various amounts of mons ey raised during the year. The Democrat did not have the op portunity to get the statistics as givea by pastor Vann, but they may be given iu a subsequent issue. Eea.li ot Mr, tfpivey, The following notices appeared in the Greenwood, (Miss) papers with a request that The Democrat copy them: 'Mrs. Mary M. Spivey, beloved wife of J. T. Spivey, Esq. died Jan. 2nd, 1893, at 11 o'clock, a. m., aged 19 years 8 months and 14 days. W'th the smcerf st sympathy we offer our condolence to the bereaved husband and mother and can only point them to Him who doeth all things for th best, and live so as t meet her in that happy homo beyond the skies. The sweet little boy that is now without a mother should be a consola tation to the stricken ones, and may h? cheer them in days to come." Delta Flag. "Died - At her home in Greenwood Miss., on January 2, 1893, Mrs. Marv M. Spivey, the wifa of Mr. J, T. Spivey The sad death of this good woman cast ' a gloom over a large circle of friends, and leaves a loving husband, devoted motler and dependent babe, to suffer her untimely end Just in the morning of womanhood with all of life before her, surmunded by kind friends, an indulgent husband and bright little family to be ruthlessly cut off, looks hard indeed. Why it happened, we do not know. Let us hope that it is for the best. To the sor rowing husband, the heart broken and dear little son, we can offer this consola tion. Their loved one is at rest. She ha3 passed into a realm through whose por tals the pang of pain has never entered." The enterprise. (Join mi sal oner' fleeting The county commissioners held regu lar meeting Monday of iast week.
