Farmers Institutes will be held at Battleboro January 19th., Enfield, 20th, and Scotland Neck, Wednes day, 21at. There will be ottered a pri2e of a years subscription to h magazine, "American Motherhood" to the woman over 20 years of age making and exhibiting at the Institute the best loaf of wheat brrad, and to the girl under 20 years of ag who lives on the farm making and exhibiting the bertt loaf of bread one years sub scription to the Woman's Magazine Only one of tho above prizes to a family. B. Parker, Director of Farmer's Institute. On Friday night, January 2nd, Miss Mabel Barnhiil, of Bethel, N. C, entertained at cards in honor of her neice,, Miss Bernedyne Samrell of Scotland Neck, N. C. Those present were Misses Ruth Carson, Addie Lee and Effie Grimes. Evelyn West, Francis Rnight, of Williamston, N. C Velma Blount and Estelle Jones. Messrs. Paul Whitehurst, Baxter Carson, Vance Bunting, Clyde Griffin. Major Man ning, Davis McWhorter and Harvey Manning. Instrumental music was rendered by Misses Francis Knight, Evelyn West and Mr. Davis Mc Whorter and vocal music by Misses Effie and Addie Lee Grimes and Drs. Manning and Griffin. Hot chocolate and sandwiches were served in the dining room and later fruit was served in the parlor. At 11 o'clock the guests departed, each and every one declaring that they had had a verv nice time. Secretary of the Navy. Josephus Daniels, htxi issued orders making every American warship a sehoo ship. This i a progressive step and we expect to see it work well. A Pleasant Christmas. During the hours I enjoyed the pleasure of all my living children and grandchildren with my dear old father of 93 years yet with me. Those present were as follows: E. B. Allsbrook and family, of Green ville; L. T. Allsbrook and family, of Richmond, Va.; Bernard Allsbrook and family, of Scotland Neck, and other friends. Now at the ?3rd an niversary of my life I trust I did not idolize any part of it, but seeing them enjoy it mostly, fireworks was grand, and I feel my incompetency to express the gratitude I owe to MORTUARY. Oak City, Jan. 12. Benjamin F. Casper died ot 7:30 o'clock Friday morning, January 9, at the family residence in Oak City. He was 5 years old. He was born in Bertie county, near Lewiston. N. C, but! has resided here since & very young man. Besides his wife and little baby daughter, he is survived by his mother, thtlate widow of W. A. Casper, four brothers, Jerry and Wrn. Casper of Kinston, Samuel and Whalen of this place, also three sis ters, Mrs. Ed Johnson, of Spring Green, Mrs. George Daniels and Mrs. Oscar Council, of Oak City. The funeral occurred at 2:30 o'clock Saturday evening. Services were conducted by Rev. T. W. Crisp, of the Missionary Baptist church, at the home of the deceased. Among the floral offerings was a cluster of flowers from the W. O. W. and Ileptasophs Lodge. Burial was in the family cemetery and was conduced by the Woodmen of the World and Heptasophs. "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Rock of Ages", rendered by a qu3ilette at the grave was very impressive. The pallbearers were H. S. Everett. W. T. Hurst, R. W. Hurst, C. L. Etheredge, Ely Williams and G. W. Council. Claude Robuek spent Saturday at! his old home. j Wilber Wortley and James Rawls, j of Hamilton, were in town Sunday.
