Excellent crop condiions and the effectual breaking of the hot wave had a bearish influ ence today on corn. Opening prices which varied from unchanged figures to 3-8c lower, with July 1.43 5-8 to 34, and August 1.46 3-8 to 1-2 were fol lowed by slight rallies and then a de cided downturn all around. Oats gave way with corn. After opening unchanged to l-4c off with July 72 5-8 to 3-4, the market suffered a material setback. Shorts covering rallied provisions from weakness which developed at the opening. Initial declnes were ascribed to sympathy with grain. Grain and provision prices: Corn Open. Close. The workings of that system have stirred to the depths the soul of the civilized world. The United States government has just published a carefully pre pared official book on "German War Practices." A copy of this book will be sent free to any reader of The Dispatch. Based on the most authentic sources the archives of our state department, official German proc lamations, the actual field diaries of German soldiers this book paints a vivid and irrefutable pic ture of the Prussian war machine at work.
