' 1 -Jl ..... :. . 6-23-lt COURTS MUST SAY IF DON ON PRIMARY Feeling Is Bitter Between the , Nominee and Abernethy. Charges Made ' (Special to The Dispatch.) Raleigh, June 22. War It shall be until the courts say whether the third district primary selected W. T. Dortch by 189 majority over Charles L. Aber nethy. That is what the Abernethy parti sans say of the state board of elec tions determination Thursday, to stand from behind -the returns. The supporters of Mr. Abernethy do not take the ruling gracefully. They had fought long and hard. He is the least upset of them all. The feeling is uncommonly bitter It extends even into the republican ranks and perhaps explains the pres ence 0f so many in the primary. It is this circumstance more than any solitary aspect of the case that makes the Abernethy men mad. They think the republicans-have come inbecause the popularity of Abernethy Jhreaten- ed the district. The Simmons organ ization did not wish to see Abernethy In congress, albeit Abernethy seems to have supported Simmons in the 1912 fight. Whether the partisans of A ViornaHiw raertt-rA Vi l m QVOTltllflllv the man to take the Simmons measure does not appear. Certainly the growth of the solicitor into one of the formid able figures in that section has car ried 'consternation. There is a very interesting story going the rounds here today. Friends of the Craven county candidate say many severe things" against Frank Thompson, of Onslow. He was a for mer senator from that county and against him the Abernethy men make many allegations, neglect of the sol diers, inBe partisanship, threat to put $10GW the republican campaign fund If Abernethy was nominated. Now, Frank Thompson is a brother of Dr. Cyrus Thompson, the match of Aycock in joint debate, the most en tertaining stump speaker produced by the republicans since "the days of Thomas Settle, senior, unless Settle juniorf deserves a division of that fame. The word went out a day or two before the primary that if Aber nethy received the nomination, Claude R. Wheatley, regular republican nom inee, was to come down in favor of Dr. Cyrus Thompson, and Dr. Cy would have made the race for that office independently. There is little doubt that Frank Thompson, who does not believe In supporting your brother if he isn't a democrat, would have backed his brother this time. So the thing stands today thus: The attorneys seem to be acting on their client's instructions. It is known that as organization democrats Judge J. C. Biggs isn't much for contesting. The court processes are slow. It is barely prdbable that the courts could reach the litigation and try it out either by jury or by referee in time for the su preme court. That district is among the first to be heard by the highest court. But it all works slowly. Meanwhile, Abernethy is little In clined to hand the nomination over. He has campaigned much, doubtless too much. Too much appetizer has clogged the atppetite. The primary came for him as a great anti-climax. But he declines to be counted out and will fight on. Mr. Abernethy has turned in his ex pense account and today ,was auditing it preliminary to putting the ' final touches to it. Notwithstanding the vast amount of money that everybody expected it to cos him, he is well wih in the allowance, it is said, and the Abernethy partisans are willing to match expenses with Colonel Dortch, who chose an entirely new way and found it satisfactory. Raleigh men in Washington lookmg after the capital's aviation interests have not been found to verify a story of a $5,000,000 business referred to in the morning paper "Of this comnjng and four weeks ago in these columns. In the earlier chronicle it was an nounced that Harry Atwood's avia tion plant here had turned out a ma chine that works to the government and its plans. On that was piled the illuminating news that the government PLEASE, MR. The story this morning set Raleigh in hopeful hu mor. The war Is telling on it The city is sombre. Business seems to be good, everybody is' at . work," but the life of the town has been .sent into the army. , The notice of Lieutenant Harry Watson's death recalled a story re cently carried from the front in which Lieutenant Watson was pictur esquely, written up as he- stood on a parapet shouting to the ? American boys: 'Stick it to 'em, boys; give 'em hell." .The young soldier, brother of Mrs. V. C. Moore; Wife of the business man ager of the News tnd Observer, was very popular here and the community has been gloomy today. The war department announces a call . for 1,000s white men to be en trained five days, beginning July 5, for? Camp Greenleaf, in general serv ice. There Is likewise .a requisition for. 247 . grammar-, school . graduates with someyexperience along mechani cal dines. These will go to Clemson college for a course similar to that taught in the State College of Agri culture and Engineering. 5: There is a call for general service for colored men, 1,300 of them, 'to en train July 16. They go to Camp Dix, Maryland. , There are 1,700 men likewise to go to Camp Meade, colored soldiers. It is announced in this connection that men cannot volunteer under Xhis draft, the 1918 soldiers who register this year. The navy is yet open to them, but otherwise they must be classified. , Escape From the Heat of the city by spending a comfortable day at Lumina. Tables furnished for family parties. If suffering from shattered nerves, anaemic conditions of the blood, men tal or physical depression and lack the desire to accomplish what you would like to do. If suffering from indigestion or kindred troubles caused through thfc after effects of a severe cold or hacking cough or probably from an attack of pneumonia or pleu risy, get a bottle of Ironized Tonic from your druggist, take it exactly as cording to directions half an hour be fore meals, ope tablespoonful with a little water added if desirable, but notJ necessary. Continue this treatment for a few days and you will find that it seems to energize every fiber, tis sue and bone. In your anxiety to get better quickly don't overdo it, as many sufferers do, and take larger doses of this standard remedy. It will not act any faster and you will not receive the same ben efits from its use you otherwise would. Nux-lron Tonic has been favorably known throughout the whole world for the past 20 years. There-is no guess work or necessity to praise its value thousands of people have done so. Go where you will, Paw-Paw is known and In presenting Nux-lron Tonic (the addition being nux and iron) we have achieved an uparalteled success, as the thousands of grateful testimonials come pouring in prove without doubt. Nux-lron Tonic will do more to brighten the world; to dispel gloom, to make happy homes and strong iron bodies, than all the medicines that have been compounded. The evidence we are publishing every day should be conclusive proof. There is no guesswork about these statements; they come from your neighbors, from people you can go and see, and from people that you are bound to believe.
