2 I January 4,2017 Community Obituaries BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 Out&About i Geraldine Ferguson Brantley AHOSKIE - Mrs. Geraldine Ferguson Brantley, 88, formerly of 231 Church Road, Ahoskie, NC passed on peacefully to be with God on December 24, 2016 at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation in Windsor, NC. Mrs. Brantley was bom on October 22, 1928 in the Trap community near Colerain and was the daughter of the late Arthur Ferguson and Ella Vin son Ferguson. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband of fifty three ■years, Robert H. Brantley and grandson, Lt. Nich olas Brantley. Except for a brief time as a teacher’s aide, she spent her adult life as a homemaker, wife and mother. A faithful member of Center Grove Bap tist Church, she served as children’s Simday school teacher for over two decades, active member of the Women’s Missionary Union and choir member. Her family will remember her as a good south ern cook who always made gatherings and holi days special. She took great pride in maintaining a plean home and neat yard. : Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Hale and husband Tommy of Aulander, NC; three sons, Doug Brantley and wife Kay of Askewville, NC, Keith Brantley and wife Joyce of Ahoskie, NC and Randy Brantley of Concord, NC. Five grandsons. Colonel Anthony R. Hale and wife Stacy of Fayette ville, NC, Robert Brantley of Askewville, NC, Per ry Hale and wife Kelly of Nags head, NC, Joseph Brantley of Stokes, NC and Jonath^ Brantley of Askew\4Ile, NC. Four great grandchildren, Chris topher Brantley of Stokes, NC, Blythe Hale and Tanner Brinkley of Nags Head, NC and Davis Sikes of Greenville, NC. Her sisters, Dorothy Brown of Ahoskie, NC, Joyce Leary and husband Thomas of AhosMe, NC and Shirley White of Ahoskie, NC. She also love her two “adopted” grandchildren, Anna Overton Hodges and Brian Overton of Green- viUe, NC. A graveside service was held FHday, December 80, 2016 at 11:00 AM at I Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, N C with Rev. Daniel Mullens and Rev. Bob Skeens officiat ing. Pennaritta Tayloe “Penny” Thompson WINDSOR - Pennaritta 'Tayloe “Penny” 'Thomp son, 74, of Robert Street, passed away Sunday, Jan uary 1, 2017 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Green ville. Mrs. 'Thompson was bom in Edgecombe Coun ty on May 9,1942, and was the daughter of the late Walter Sidney and Lena Moore Rawls 'Tayloe. A re tired high school teacher from Bertie High School having taught for 32 years, she attended Windsor United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Gray 'Thompson, Sr.; and by a brother, Sid 'Tayloe and his wife Arm. Surviving are her daughter, Leana Wynne and husband Doug of PoweUsville; a step-daughter, Hope 'Thompson of Windsor; a brother, Bobby 'Tay loe and wife 'Theresa of Wilmington; two grandchil dren, Alexis Becker and Shane Wynne; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am. in Ahoskie Cemetery.
