Calipari recruits the nation’s best tal ent but does anybody think he is an elite teacher of the game? Izzo is a great teacher of the game but has been unable to bring elite talent to East Lansing. In the meantime, 01’ Roy is considered a jack of all trades and master of none. His ability to recruit both great players and role players has pro vided stability to an elite program in the height of the one and done era. His coach ing, both in practice and in games, has led his teams to more Fi nal Fours than any of the coaches mentioned above. Despite his success, Roy Williams is rarely considered one of the best coaches in the game. In the eyes of UNC fans, and probably himself, he will never be able to outgrow the shadow of Dean Smith. In the eyes of most ev eryone else, he has been unable to meet the standard set by the other hall of fame coach working eight miles down the road in Durham. I hope for coach Wil liams’ sake that the na tional media will come to recognize what I al ready know. For their own sake, I hope my fellow Carolina fans ap preciate what we once again have.
