Rob erson crossed the plate for the third run when James Brooks singled to left field. In the fourth inning, Zack Castelloe reached on an error moved to third on a groundout by Nathaniel Cheeseboro and scored when Cottle reached on an error. White followed with a single, Hughson walked and Roberson doubled to right field. In the bottom of the sixth frame, Cottle smacked a one-out dou ble to left and scored on a single by White. White advanced on a passed ball, then a sin gle by Hughson, and scored on a double by Roberson. White was 3-for^ with one RBI for Bertie, while Cottle was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Roberson went 2-for-2 with four RBls. Adding one hit each were Hughson and Brooks. White earned the win on the mound, allow ing six hits and one run with five strikeouts and one walk. Cottle struck out two batters in the seventh inning. The next day, the Fal cons struggled out of the gate early and fell on the road to Farmville Central. The Jaguars took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and add ed four more in the sec ond frame. They added three in the fourth and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings. The Falcons scored a run in the top of the fourth when White sin gled, stole second and scored on a double by Roberson. Bertie added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Roberson that plated Cottle. Cottle had started the frame with a single and moved to second on White’s groundout to first base. The Falcons tacked on their final run in the top of the seventh when Scoop Hoggard walked, moved up on an error and scored on Castel loe’s groundout. Roberson led Bertie by going 2-for-3 with two RBls. Cottle, White and Brooks provided one hit each. Hughson suffered the loss on the mound for the Falcons. He gave up one hit and four runs (one earned) with two strikeouts and two walks. Hoggard worked four innings of middle relief, walking five and fan ning one while allowing seven hits and six runs (four earned). Roberson finished on the hill, allowing one hit and one run. Trowell, LA shut out Panthers From staff Reports ELIZABETH CITY - Miller Trowell threw a three- hit shutout, and early offense helped Law rence Academy’s base ball team shut out Pas quotank 10-0 April 12. The Warriors im proved to 14-0 with the non-conference win. Lawrence scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, added single runs in the sec ond and third frames and erupted for six runs in the top of the fifth stanza. Doubles from Trowell and Daquan Wilson, a single from Jarrett Har rell, an error and two stolen bases gave the Warriors a 2-0 advan tage after one frame. In the top of the sec ond, Charles Atkins reached on an error, advanced on passed balls and scored when Wilson reached on an error, making it 3-0. In the third, Trowell walked, moved up on a groundout and scored on another Panthers miscue, extending the Warriors lead to 4-0. The big fifth inning started with singles from Austin Wynne and Mill er Trowell. Slade Cowan was hit by a pitch, Har rell singled and Wood Trowell walked. White then doubled to clear the bases and then scored on consecutive errors. Miller Trowell and Harrell each collected two hits for Lawrence Academy. White, Wilson and Wynne added the other hits. Miller Trowell al lowed just three singles while throwing five in nings and 72 pitches. He struck out 10 and didn’t issue a walk. Bertie then par ticipated in the D.H. Conley Easter Classic Saturday and Monday at the Sara Law Com plex in Winterville. The Falcons man aged only one hit Sat urday in a 7-0 loss to Wilmington’s Laney High School. On Monday, Bertie suffered its second loss of the event, falling 7-2 to Richmond County. The Falcons scored a run in the top of the fourth inning and add ed one in the top of the sixth frame. Bertie currently stands 6-2 in the NEC, a half game behind sec ond place Currituck (7- 2) in the league ledger. The Falcons (10- 6 overall) meet the Knights (10-5) on Tues day, April 25.
