A2 I JUNE 7,2017 Community BERTIE LEDGER-ADVANCE The fabric of Bertie County since 1832 Obituaries Sue Doris Smithwick White EDENTON - Sue Doris Smithwick White, 101, of Chambers Ferry Road, and formerly of 810 Pme Ridge Road, Coleratn, died Sunday June 4, 2017 peacefully at her home. She was bom in Bertie County on March 29, 1916 to the late WiUiam Mi chael and Sue Louise Biitt Smithwick and was pre deceased by her husband of 64 years, Marvin Ste venson White; daughter, Ellen Buckinger; sister, Louise Taylor; brothers, Todd and T. Bud Smith wick. Sue Doris was a member of Capeharts Bap tist Church where she was the organist for over 30 years. She was a member of the WMU and the Pine Ridge Quilting Club. She knitted many Christ mas stocking and gave them away to families in the neighborhood. Her love for gardening, music, flowers and plants irrspired many young people to take up those traits. Funeral services will be held Tuesday Jrme 6, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Capeharts Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Thigpen officiating. Burial will follow in the White Family Cemetery, Pine Ridge Road, Colerain. Survivors include daughters, Alice Perry (Carl ton) and Susie Swanner (Gary) of Edenton; sons, Robert S. White (Jane) of Windsor, Mickey White (Linda) of Eure, David White (Marie) of Colerain; 14 grandchildren, Michael Perry, Pat Mansfield, Lori Pucher, Brad White, Craig White, Paul White, Michael White, Carl White, Amanda Flythe, Gina Powell, Bonnie Siano, Robbie Buckinger, Steven Buckinger, Leslie Buckinger; 23 great grandchil dren; 6 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends following the ser vice. William Franklin “Frank” Waterfield AULANDER - WLUiam Franklin “Frank” Water- field, 82, of 201 Hall Street, passed away Monday, June 5,2017 in his home. Mr. Waterfield was bom in Norfolk, VA on March 7, 1936, and was the son of the late William Leven and Ruth Virginia Pope Waterfield. Retired from Hampton Roads Transit, he was an Army veter^ having served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Aimette Water- field; a son, Harry Waterfield; two sisters, Mildred Robinson and Evelyn Johnson; and by three broth ers, Willie, Edward, and Harry Waterfield. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Betty Dim- ning Waterfield; four sons, Frank, Jimmy, Kenny, and David Waterfield, Sr. (Karyn); a step-daughter, Beth Banks (Jonathan); a sister, Ruth Simpson; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1469 NC Hwy 11 South, Aulander, and will be officiated by The Rev. Phil Terry. Burial with military honors will fol low in the Hall Rogerson Cemetery. Friends may join the family in the church during the horrr pri or to the services on Thursday, and all other times at the residence. He was bom in Bertie County on August 26,1926 to the late Henry Wayland Spruill and Irene Cherry Spruill and was predeceased by his wife, Janet Cooper Spruill and brother, Hemy Grayson Spruill. Charles was a lifetime member of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He served in the US Adr Force during World War H. He worked with Gfllam Bros. Hardware in Windsor; Tayloe’s Hardware in Aulander and retired from the US Postal Service with 26 years of service. He was a Past President of the Aulander Ruritan Club. Funeral services will be held Thursday Jime 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home Chap el in \^indsor. The Rev. Jimmy Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery with Mil itary honors.
